I worked at Duke Energy as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with Duke Energy was a very positive experience. I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful boss and team members in the revenue department.

    Cons

Unfortunately, while at this company I was able to learn the "cut throat" side of a company as well. The CEO do not care about the lower level employees they will cut a complete department in order to make room for someone to make a six figure salary.

    Advice to Management

To the Revenue Service department it is a great opportunity to work with a team keep it that way always stay positive and fight for your employees.

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and pay; CEO is taking company in right direction; 4 10 schedule;

    Cons

Back stabbing environment; Typical racial stereotypes influence the way management in Engineering treat you. No room for advancement within some divisions of Engineering unless you are part of good ole boy system.

    Advice to Management

Get to know all of your employees not just the ones you've worked with for years or have the loudest voice. Stop believing racial stereotypes about people and treat everyone as individuals. Provide everyone with opportunities to advance and to diversify their skills.

    Pros

Duke offers outstanding benefits and security. Flexible work schedule is offered 4-10's. Great company leadership.

    Cons

Change is constant with the merger between Progress and Duke Energy. In some ways this opens up new opportunities and in some ways it creates a high degree of uncertainty.

I worked at Duke Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work as long as you can adapt to constant changes. People are hard working and most have worked there their whole lives.

    Cons

Don't get too used to a process because things will change, sometimes it seems without reason. That being said, many companies are similar.

    Advice to Management

Inform every multifunctional group of changes that are happening, prior to them happening.
