I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits package, growth opportunities, stable company that's involved in the community, corporate partnerships get you discounts on travel, cellular bills, rental cars, etc., very uncommon to get fired.

    Cons

One of their biggest pros creates one of their biggest cons. Since they always try and keep employees, you'll find people that don't belong in their roles and simply aren't capable. This is common for many of the older workers who aren't quite to retirement and just looking for a few more years work. It should eventually phase out with the older portion of the workforce.

    Advice to Management

Add a student loan match as an alternative to a retirement match. Compensate based on ability, not time served.

I worked at Duke Energy as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Duke provides plenty of opportunity for interns to perform. They give their interns and co-ops a position of responsibility, rather than meaningless busy work. They also pay well, and provide their interns/co-ops health and retirement benefits.

    Cons

The usual pains of large corporations. It takes forever to accomplish simple tasks. There is excessive formality for unimportant projects.

    Advice to Management

IT Security needs to be realistic when creating their agenda. A lot of their changes makes it infinitely harder to get work done.

    Pros

Great group of professionals to work with, most contractor's or former coworkers. Flexible work schedule, typically a four day work week. Contractors included in work related events and activities.
