I worked at Duke Energy as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonderful people to work with, give credit where credit is due, diversity is top priority

    Cons

Expect all regions to operate the same, want consistent when it's impossible...having one state help with another state's work... It's not the same work...

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to make each region the same, each area should be judged each area should be judged on it's own merits it's own merits

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - New Co-ops get real, meaningful engineering work
    - Experienced mentor engineer accountable for your success
    - Good pay and excellent benefits for a Co-op
    - High emphasis on employee safety

    Cons

    - Sometimes work is stalled by gaps in information, resulting in delays
    - Shy of new technology and R&D

    Advice to Management

The atmosphere of "taking the time to do things right" and "Don't rush, you have time" is an excellent approach. Please keep using it. It's the best way to keep good employees and build a strong reputation of reliability. Checking twice is always quicker and cheaper than rebuilding a mistake.

Keep working on being transparent with the public and push to show them how you're trying to save them money. Many bad sentiments the public hold stem from them simply not understanding some of the restrictions we work with.
