Former Employee - Clinical Research Coordinator in Durham, NC

I worked at Duke University Health System

    Pros

Excellent work environment: reasonable hours, paid parking, comfortable offices, good benefits and employee health programs.

    Cons

Pay was substandard, parking was off-site and required a bus ride to reach the hospital.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay and this would be a keeper; as it was, most folks I knew were looking for something better while working there.

I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The people and environment are great. Duke has great benefits and the Durham area gets better every year. PTO is split between vacation/sick as a bi-weekly employee and monthly, with monthly employees earning more PTO benefits.

    Cons

Hard to move up in a single department, but if you're willing to transfer you can move around within the system for growth. I found the salary cap to be limited by politics.

I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

It can be a good environment working with bright colleagues. There seem to be good opportunities to learn and move up, so it's what you make it to some extent.

    Cons

However, I think there is a huge discrepancy in experience (positive or negative) based on which group you're with. Some people are really lazy and somehow the hard workers get saddled with their work.
