I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    403b benefits for monthly staff

    Cons

Constant change, high performing office offices are challenged with constant change, causing high turn over rates, unrealistic EJR’s and standard work for rooming staff causes burn out.

    Advice to Management

Improve attrition, improve staffing , great job on encounter specialist model, however, as soon as a person as reached competency, high turn over rate bringing in 4 new grad students. Loved working here, management including HCA and NM should be fully trained in all aspects of their direct reports job, for several reasons to assist when needed and manadatory walk in your shoes 2x a month for 4 hours.

    Pros

Leader in the healthcare industry Looks great on a resume Fair pay and benefits

    Cons

Administration has lost touch with the boots on the ground folks Providers are the center of every decision that is made. Not the patient, not the staff, not the outcome, the provider.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that in order for the doctors to succeed you need a network below them lifting them up.

    Pros

Duke has a great reputation for providing exceptional medical care. They are loyal to their mission and try to promote from inside the company

    Cons

Duke has a tendency to react instead of be proactive with patient care and needs. This also applies to the treatment of front line staff, such as nurses, lab and radiology techs.
