Great place to work to put on your resume but not for long term
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lots of resources. Good educational benefits. Great learning experience.
Cons
They are using an expensive consultant group that is telling them where to save money which apparently comes from cutting RN pay and benefits. Severely understaffed. The nurses are in desperate need of a union for protection against the administration.

Pros
invaluable experience in ICUs that allows you to get a job anywhere else. phenomenal attendings who are devoted to an academic environment and appreciate teaching.
Cons
it is terrible pay for how hard you are worked and all of the expectations held of you. you can only make more money by dumping more time into the system and piling on your workload, so essentially, the number of year you've been a nurse is irrelevant compared to the number of projects, tasks, and committees you're willing to tackle.

Pros
Generally good benefits if you sign up for one of their Duke healthcare plans and also take advantage of employee wellness activities, and etc.
Cons
Parking; pay is not commensurate with the volume and level of work expected for a lot of the lower and mid-level, non-managerial positions; it's hard to advance in some areas; only allowed minimal salary increases when taking hire level position (in a lot of cases); and often over-worked if in salaried role.

Pros
One of the top research institutions in the country. Excellent clinicians and research professionals and a highly collaborative and friendly environment.
Cons
The pay is not competitive with companies in the private sector and some research institutions. Lots of red tape and bureaucracy. It sometimes takes a very long time for a simple task to be performed.

Pros
Patients and sometimes your co-workers are fun to be around. Health insurance is pretty good.
Cons
PTO is used for everything. That includes holiday's! Christmas holiday pay comes out of your accrued PTO😡. Dental insurance you might as well put the premium in a savings account and pay the Dentist yourself.

Pros
Offers Flexible Scheduling , PTO accumulation, Nurse Residency Program, Great Preceptors, Nurse Loan Forgiveness Program, Uses Epic EMR software, Magnet Hospital , relocation assistance, One of the best hospitals in the USA, Great location to work live and play tons to do great weather!
Cons
Duke does not pay nurses enough and does not offer raises and if they do its like 20 cents a year . That is one of the reasons why nurses leave Duke is to find hospitals who will pay them what there worth. Health, dental and vision insurance is also very expensive . Duke also needs some improvement on their nurse to patient ratios they can sometimes be overwhelming especially on Step down, PCU and Med Surg Units.

Pros
Great benefits, Great opportunities for advancement regardless of your experience and career level. Looks great on a resume and certainly has provided me with a great deal of enrichment in life.
Cons
Transfer pay rules are extremely backwards and do not reward their best employees as they should. It is unfortunate that to really get paid what you are worth you have to transfer out of Duke and attempt to get back in...make sure you don't burn bridges!
