I worked at Dunnhumby full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

dunnhumby was my first proper employer after university and I enjoyed its good company culture. I learnt many things (I worked in the IT department) about processes (e.g. corporate induction processes) and their flexible working policy was great.

    Cons

There are some very good and some very bad mid-level managers, you need to be lucky to get a good one that helps you with pushing your career.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit thorough when promoting people to management positions.

I worked at Dunnhumby full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A wealth of data to play with, good benefits, work life balance is good,

    Cons

No career progression for analysts. All credit\promotions\decent pay rises go to the client leads and those who talk loud enough. They can't keep good analysts and so there is a lack of consistency and people to learn from. The company is in decline. They can't commit to a strategy and keep changing their minds every 6 months which wastes time and is demotivating .

    Advice to Management

make up your minds and pick a strategy and go with it. Deflate the egos and accept that dh is no longer at the forefront of data and customer science but is lagging behind. There are too many people in senior management positions who have no other industry experience and they have grown complacent and lazy.

I have been working at Dunnhumby full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good atmosphere and "family" sort of feel. When things get tough, there's definitely a sense of ownership amongst peers and everyone pulls together to solve the problems. Lots of interesting challenges and problems to solve too, which keeps it engaging.

    Cons

The friendly culture has some downsides too though. People generally avoid confrontation which results in a lot of bad ideas gaining more traction than they ought to. Good benefits, but the salary compensation doesn't generally match the market.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of members around the business that have been in the same positions for a long time resulting in a lot of stagnation and fear of change. This really needs fixing, and while attempts are being made to fix this, there's still a long way to go.

    Pros

Culture that sees its employees as people
Have invested heavily in training for client services employees and analysts
    Additional benefits broad and generous
Office is a great working space, with a gym and on-site personal trainer

    Cons

    Few opportunities above junior management

    Advice to Management

Fresh ideas needed at senior level, lack of vision and diversity

I worked at Dunnhumby full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Work Life balance
    2. The Tesco loyalty discount card
    3. Treat yourself allowence
    4. Car allowance for some levels
    5. The ability to put on your cv "previous employment data science company"

    Cons

    1. Chaotic project approach - It seems the company just jumps from one project to the next with little regards to cost, resources or ongoing support. There is no real project management, analysis of success or failures or lessons learned. Bad projects just keep going. New projects are started covering the same outcomes as ongoing projects.

    2. Dictatorship - In every department and level there are leaders who make decisions based on bias and personal opinion with little regards to facts and what actually is best.

    3. Bad Managment - Most managers are untrained and not suited for their position, simply promoted due to "work friendship" and years of service.

    4. Bad Promotions - Due to "work friendship" the right people are not promoted and unsuitable people are placed in the wrong positions making bad decisions.

    5. Too many technologies - Instead of the company focusing on a few chosen technologies or projects to make them great they chose to try and use everything. In turn, this produces a lot of hacked up projects and very badly designed systems. Customers are noticing this and this is why sales are tanking.

    6. Mediocre Compensation and benefits - While the treat yourself allowance and Tesco card are great, the salary compensation is below market. HR tries to compensate with benefits but these are not included when calculating your bonus calculation.

7.False reviews on here - It seems there are a lot of false reviews (from fake accounts) as there have been mass redundancies and entire teams leaving the company which is not reflected in current reviews.

    8. Freeloaders - there are still a lot of freeloaders in the company who are paid high salaries but do nothing, while other people are overworked to compensate.

9.No accountability - no one is held accountable when bad projects fail instead they just go on to the next bad idea

    10. Bad atmosphere - due to the bad points explained above the work atmosphere is no longer happy and cheerful but grim, most people have lost the will to work and are no longer motifated, they are just cruising and waiting for the next payday.

    Advice to Management

The company needs a huge overhaul, get proper managers, remove useless people, focus on key technologies and improve your products. Don't dismiss good ideas and remove the dictatorship.

I worked at Dunnhumby (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An Incredible culture - collaborative and supportive, with some truly excellent people. This is an organisation that is truly a great place to work and one of the most stimulating and engaging companies I have had the opportunity to work for.

    Cons

The slight flip side to the great culture is the need to be more focused on outcomes and how to achieve them. This is however a small point for an organisation and culture that has so much to offer for those of a similar mindset.
