I worked at DynCorp International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is good if you negotiate well. There are some really good people.

    Cons

Benefits are just barely OK, company is shifting more burden to employee each year. Personnel turnover is constant, if you can keep the same team for a year, you are very lucky. Executives have all been cycled over the last two years. Not seeing any direction yet. Company continues to bleed money and does not appear to be winning any significant contracts.

    Advice to Management

Win contracts that actually make money

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement, if you are willing to go anywhere.
Although most employees are severely overworked, they are hard workers and team oriented.
Everyone gets Merit, when there is one.

    Cons

Continuous Restructuring and turn over at Senior Leadership level. The ones who stay, have no where to go. Gossip is rampant at all levels, mainly due to lack of downward communication.
Merit program is so little it is almost insulting. One in last 4 years, and there is no differentiation for top performers. Promotions/raises have ridiculous limits and constraints, unless you're Senior Leadership.
Absolutely no loyalty from Senior Leadership. You are just a number.

    Advice to Management

Start over. Listen to your SMEs and quit embarrassing yourself, costing company money. Stand up for your people. Leadership is much more then just looking up at your boss for next title.

    Pros

You will learned a lot about how not to treat people, and how not to run a team. You will also learned that some BIG pay checks are just not worth what you have to go through to get them.

    Cons

Management had no moral compass. Discrimination and lying ran rampant among senior leaders. This company is burden on the military and all those who serve in uniform.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for the management. Some things you cant fix and the management at this company is one of those things.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time

    Pros

Change in Leadership on the horizon; hopeful change in Proposals so that we may begin to win work.

    Cons

Complacent work environment, Weak HR.... REALLY WEAK. No one is held accountable for their inability to perform the work that they were hired to do in Project Controls. HR decisions has hindered the ability of our direct manager. The people who know cost can not staff to the level needed with the talent required to make a difference. HR is the worst I have ever seen. We are not talking about most HR workers, I am talking about Management and Senior Management. They will not hold people accountable when management brings them an issue with their employees. Their actions are appalling.

    Advice to Management

Hold people accountable so that my manager who knows what is supposed to happen can make it happen. Replace HR with employees who can aid managers in managing when there is an issue. Do NOT lay off people who WONT or DONT work, Fire them!

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Good company when they are winning deals... shuffled 3 CEO's and 5 CIO's in 3 years,

    Cons

Running joke as we never know if our bade will work to get into door. Always lurking are layoffs and once an "all hands meeting" is announced we check to see if our peers on there as it is their way to move all from office that are not or sometime are getting layoff.

    Advice to Management

Win deals and be prepared financially when market slows so you do not cut good people.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, very former veteran friendly. If you're sharp with a great attitude, you can go as far with DynCorp.

    Cons

Longevity is contract dependent. Same with most companies that rely on government contracts; unless they win a re-compete or a new contract, you're looking for another job every few years.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you give your stellar performers every opportunities to take courses like the Sis Sigma series, even when you think you can't spare them. Don't send the folks you CAN spare.
