I worked at DynCorp International as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My direct report and management team were professional and very team oriented. Corporate seems intent on building a company built on true professionalism and rooting out the "buddy system" systemic in overseas contracting.

My experience with the company was overall very positive

    Cons

Many departments lacked continuous improvement input from their front line personnel. Many of my friends from other departments experienced a far courser work life from their senior management team.

    Advice to Management

More emphasis on education, experience, skill, aptitude, and attitude during hiring.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are opportunities for advancement if you are ambitious, smart and willing to work hard. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Government contractors experienced massive growth during the Bush years and now the cycle has turned. Currently in 2014 this is a very challenged sector with downsizing occurring on an ongoing basis.

    Advice to Management

Information and knowledge is very compartmentalized and difficult to obtain, creating an inefficient work environment and often inconsistent results. A greater emphasis should be placed on leveraging the knowledge of SMEs who can greatly reduce the learning curve for more inexperienced or temporary staff.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a few incentive rewards with healthcare to earn reward money. Fair amount of places to get discounts and perks, ie. AT&T. Tuition assistance is very generous along with relocation reimbursement.

    Cons

Upper management does not know what is going on or how to run the program. There are many issues, one being the current health insurance change and no coverage in this area. Possibility of layoffs and a reduced workforce. Overtime has currently been banned due to the budget.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to be informed of what it is really like to work at a site and realize that the great plans that are drawn up in a cubical, will always work. Professional micromanagers and this creates issues as one can imagine.

  9. "Great company at times. The program / management team an employee has will either make you love or hate the company."

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people, strong values, decent benefits, competitive pay, military / vet friendly, branching into commercial contracts in addition to government contracts.

    Cons

Limited options for promotions and employee development. HR policies seem contradictory. Company owners have changed the way enterprise functions.. and it hasn't benefited the employees at all.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your current people rather than bringing on new VPs.

    Pros

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Senior Directors should have hands on experience in the type of work being completed by subordinates
