I have been working at E. A. Berg & Sons full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company. Great people, a family atmosphere. Decent starting pay. 9 holidays off. 5 sick days. Starting 1 week vacation. Every person in the company is a decent hard working regular person. Not many with attitudes, but a few. If you can learn HOW to do the job, you'll be fine.

    Cons

You need to learn how to work the job. Sales are the easy part. Understanding your actual job is the hard part. Raises aren't easy. Health plan is expensive. This job is all about numbers, not sales. Learn how to make the numbers and you'll be good. Resist, do it your way, try to reinvent the wheel and you'll have a hard time here.

    Advice to Management

Every DM and field rep needs better training at the beginning. Their should also be interval training. Retrain your field reps once or twice year, but not in the field. Maybe one on one at the office. The DM meetings are great, but the field reps need that type of training too.

    I worked at E. A. Berg & Sons (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company Vehicle,iPad Technology, met some real nice Customers along the way.
I never had the pleasure of meeting the Owners(sad that they put all their faith in a few unsavory individuals in NJ-GB)

    Cons

1#Upper Management(Sales Dept, lacked speedbag and testes),way too many stores to call on and having to pick up replenishment product at a Wholesaler all the way in Downtown(miles away from my territory),total inconvenience.

    Advice to Management

The clock is ticking on your reign of idiocy.

I have been working at E. A. Berg & Sons full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ea berg allows their employees to make decisions based on their own experience. Vacation time is great and can be used whenever needed without much notice to management. management trusts employees to do their jobs appropriately and do not micro manage often.

    Cons

medical benefits are a little pricey and promotions may take some time but this is because an open position is rare to come by.

    Advice to Management

continue to listen to team members and allow them to grow. a little more attention to details for the employees needs can be better.

    "Retail Sales Rep"

    I worked at E. A. Berg & Sons full-time

    Pros

    Mon-Fri 8am-4pm
    Decent starting salary
    Camaraderie among team members

    Cons

Lack of trust in what we (sales reps) do
Job description is not actually what the job ends up being
Audits & work behinds are too frequent
    No room for growth
Pretty much impossible to get a raise
Too many back and forth emails that have nothing to do with daily tasks
Large amount of redundancy in mandatory end of day email summary

My route was Northern Brooklyn/Queens for a little bit over a year and a half almost to the day. I won't use anybody by name because I do not think that's fair but all I will say is a little bit of what I said above and all of what I said is true. There is a huge lack of trust in from upper management all the way down. We as reps were treated like the absolute bottom rung of the totem pole. We as reps worked our butts off and our jobs were constantly threatened in an attempt to get us to "work harder" when in actuality all it did was bring morale down. I have heard different things coming from people who actually worked in the office but for the most part the sales reps felt the same across the board, at least on the East Coast

    Advice to Management

Have more faith in your employees, you've hired good people over time who lose interest because we feel like there is no way we can do right.

    I have been working at E. A. Berg & Sons full-time

    Pros

Nice enviroment. Very understending staff. Pay is very reasonable according to responsabilities assigned

    Cons

They make you sale, but dont pay commissions, they should get more results if they assign quotas and pay commission to the reps

    Advice to Management

Doing a good job so far, not a lot that I can add. Its a good company to work for

I have been working at E. A. Berg & Sons full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Mon.-Fri. work week.
    9 paid holidays.
    6 paid sick days.
Keep your work van at your residence.
Ability to maintain your route on your own, without the DM's interference.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals set by the "client."
Too many e-mails back and forth that are often ignored and a waste of time.
Too much after hours work (daily status reports).
Too much back and forth to storage and distributor.
Representatives are way underpaid in comparison with competitors representatives.
Expect representatives to see 10-12 accounts per day (in an 8-9 work day), whilst not accounting for commute time to stops, distributors and storage.
Expect representatives to clock in once you arrive at your first stop or distributor, not accounting for commute time which may be anywhere between 15 minutes to 2 plus hours. This goes against basic California labor laws, and is an extremely frustrating aspect of the job.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
Have faith in the adults that you hire.
Set realistic route goals so that your representatives can provide the best service to their customers.
Stop looking at just the numbers and realize that your tactics will cause you to lose some of the best employees that you could even hope to have.
