Glass ceiling hard to break through

I have been working at E.ON (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and salary. Generous holiday schedule. Hours are good since senior management works 10 AM to 5 PM. It's a great company if you like bureaucracy and incompetence.

    Cons

For a company that develops renewable projects, the pipeline is non existent. E.ON can only build in Texas. Solar development is a joke with nothing built in the last 3 years. US managers are more concerned about looking good to their bosses in Germany than attending to issues. It is a kiss up/kick down culture where managers are very abusive of employees but are upper management's sycophants.

    Advice to Management

It's time to hire a decent search firm to replace the US leadership with executives who have delivered results elsewhere. Prospective candidates should ask hard questions about the viability of the wind and solar pipeline, the management style of management, and should reach out to current and former employees for insight. E.ON likes to make relocation expenses a form of indentured servitude so be careful.

I have been working at E.ON full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Intelligent people, strong benefits, they pay somewhat competitively to what market pays. Projects are challenging, yet good. Nothing other than that.

    Cons

Everything outside of pay and benefits. Like I said, senior management is filled with a bunch of idiots. HR can't figure out things for the life of them.. lack of resources- I'm pretty sure everything I do is manual. What a joke! Minimal work life balance.

    Advice to Management

    Get your sh** figured out.

I have been working at E.ON full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay relative to the market, good benefits(for now), good people

    Cons

Too many layers of upper management in Germany, lack of meaningful communication, no career growth potential, lower level employees are often work or are asked to be available on off days

    Advice to Management

Management in the US must learn to say no to German management's excessive and duplicate requests and "initiatives". Management in Germany need to stop "grasping at straws" to develop a viable strategy for the company going forward.

    Pros

Diverse group of professionals with a passion for the work they do.

    Cons

North American management team often finds their hands tied with executive management being in Germany. Extremely lean staff; lack of administrative support.

    Advice to Management

Identify talent within your team and utilize those talents where best fit.

I have been working at E.ON (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work and at a time was a fun place to be with potential for a real career growth

    Cons

Parent company's troubles affected ECRNA decision making ability. Most promotions seemed political rather than merit based. Senior management ECRNA from CEO and down seemed to just dance to their German masters' tune than having any plan or vision of their own

    Advice to Management

Hang in there it can only improve(?)

I have been working at E.ON full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance in most roles, great people, excellent holiday/vacation package

    Cons

No direction, unfocused, paralysis by analysis

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to make a decision instead of studying every little thing for years until the opportunity disappears
