I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best benefits in the industry

    Cons

High Executive turnover so direction of the company is vague and ever changing

    Advice to Management

Compensation is confusing to track and inaccurate... Sales should focus on Business development and not have to worry about receiving their accurate compensation.

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

E*TRADE is a great learning environment for a person just entering the industry, the role of Branch Service Representative in particular. They will fully sponsor representatives to get all appropriate licenses (7, 66, etc.). The BSR role will give you insight into sales, compliance, administration, our platform, and general securities industry 'know-how'. This is a very good starting point for anyone interested in the public markets and/or wealth management.

In regards to our branch management, you can approach our managers with any issue/question, they have a total open door policy and have a very hands on approach with new hires.

The compensation and coverage benefits are very inline with industry standards.

In terms of career development, within the first few months you'll be asked where you see yourself growing in the company, what your goals are, etc. They want you to help you develop within the company and offer guidance along the way.

    Cons

As of yet, none that I have experienced.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hold all employees accountable for making sure the client experience is top grade. This will set us aside from our competitors.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Office was in a great location (midtown and jersey city), certain employees can be friendly

    Cons

Management is a wreck. Everyone is just out there trying to keep their jobs. Upper management doesn't treat the people below them as people based on their job titles. The company sells itself as having a "startup vibe" but its as corporate as can be. Very inconsiderate of personal and religious needs of employees. If you want to grow your career and enjoy your work, I suggest you look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of current management. E*Trade will go nowhere with such unhappy workers and bozos at the top.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits package (healthcare, dental)

    Cons

The company is a shell of what it used to be, and has failed to keep up with the technology and product offerings in the brokerage space. Numerous turnovers, layoffs, and team changes have only added to the confusion and lack of focus. Acquisition of OptionsHouse have led to additional senior management changes, which has made the company more of a political battlefield instead of a business.

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Upward mobility, ability to do many different tasks, feel like your involvement makes a difference, if you have the right supervisor you will be able to really integrate yourself into the culture.

    Cons

A bit stiff at times, lack of training appropriate to growth, pay is not market value, lack of addressing employee concerns with organization

    Advice to Management

Hire needed resources and empower your direct reports. Incentivize the good staff you already have instead of hiring new ones and having to train them from scratch.

    Pros

The people, although most are now gone with the restructuring. Good work / life balance and benefits. Good location.

    Cons

Lack of focus and no clear direction from leadership on brand, customer target, product priorities or "why ETRADE?". Not a lot of innovation, and if there are ideas, there are roadblocks everywhere. Morale is very low.

    Advice to Management

Less "barking" and complaining. More professionalism and true management/leadership.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

some really nice people work here who have worked through 5-8 CEOs and management transitions. They love the company and their jobs, but they are not in HQ. Some of the divisional or subdivision managers are professional and competent.

    Cons

senior management team is entirely all white men. lacks diversity and appreciation for diversity. a few even have to tell you "i'm really smart - I know what I'm doing. I'm an expert" in Town Halls. HR ignores all complaints.

    Advice to Management

    Become professional.
