    Pros

Good company to work for. Technology and innovation focused. Just needs a little work in the Operations departments and the programs we use to help customers need to stop crashing or being incredibly slow at random times during the day. Aside from that there is a lot of good to be said about the company and I do enjoy working there (I'm lucky to have a great manager, too).

    Cons

Some of the supervisors working in the Operations department kill me sometimes. There are some great ones and others that I cannot believe have not been let go yet. They defy all logic and common sense. I wish they had the customer in mind back there instead of doing whatever the heck they try not to do. I'd give anything to put some of the supervisors back there on the phones for just one week (their direct reports do a better job than them honestly).

    Advice to Management

Fix Genie. Fix Operations. Fix VISA card and checkbook issues. 'Nuff said.

  3. "E*TRADE flexible overall, but get a good manager. Great place for a student, but may not be a full time career"

    Pros

E*TRADE is a very mellow and easy going employer. However, how easy going depends on your Manager. Some managers look the other way while others are very strict and to the point. Additionally, they give you a month to study for the series 7 and they pay you while you are doing it. They have excellent study guides for passing this difficult test. They do not ask for a specific length of time after they pay for you passing the 7. So you may use E*TRADE to get it and go somewhere else that pays more

    Cons

In customer service you always see the worse things that happen, that being said they do seem to lose a plethora of paperwork and can be slow to correct their mistakes. Their pay is somewhat on the low side and they can be slow to give raises. But their ability to work with families and busy students makes this easy to overlook

    Advice to Management

Listen to what the employees want. It will not do any good to make rules that will drive employees away

    Pros

Great talent, technology and very motivated people.

    Cons

Balance sheet aspect, timing is not good as financial industries are going through downward spiral and ET is not exception.

    Advice to Management

Employee retention, motivation and vision for company going forward will be the key for success for ET and management must look into these.

"E*TRADE is an innovative company that has a strong culture yet wrought with many opportunities for job growth."

    Pros

The best reasons to work for E*TRADE is that firstly there are a lot of opportunities to work on many different projects and initiatives. There are many different initiatives the company undertakes. Thus opportunities generally seek you out first. Secondly, if you like to get things done, E*TRADE has a culture of getting big projects done in very little time. That can be exciting on the one hand and challenging on the other. Lastly, the company is huge on innovation. The company thrives very much on coming up with new products and tools to improve the experience of all our customers.

    Cons

As with any company there are certainly some downsides with working at E*TRADE. The first is that there is always a lack of human resources. Given that the company is always trying to keep costs down this is the biggest challenge especially when the company has so many big ambitions. On the one hand it means that there are a lot of opportunities. On the other hand it becomes a challenge to get everything done. The second is that with any financial company, there are a lot of regulatory procedures that must be adhered to. These can certainly get in the way of completing projects in a timely manner.

    Advice to Management

Despite the troubles in the industry, continue to seek opportunities to invest.

    Pros

Fun culture, dynamic business. Lots of opportunities to learn about various retail financial services.

    Cons

Balance sheet is a wreck due to the HELOC assets. It will be awhile before it is put back together, and when it is, my opinion is that it will be sold to a competitor.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the balance sheet. It will be tough to attract and retain talented people otherwise. Those that remain will do so because they are unemployable elsewhere or scared of the current economy. Not the people you need to turn the company around.

    Pros

Great learning opportunity, great benefits package, awesome brokerage platform, good marketing by the company. ETRADE (Arlington) is also VERY involved in the community, e.g. homeless out-reach programs, elementary school visits, toys for tots around the holidays etc.

    Cons

Senior management can be aloof and disinterested, instant messaging seems to be the only way to communicate with co-workers. Stock price cant seem to break the $2 mark. Nervous about the economy and if ETRADE will react accordingly. Lots of customer service are out-sourced to Manilla.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to learn about the "little people" that work under you, help us develop our career by introducing us to new tasks.

    Pros

Great flexibility with your schedule, several shifts are offered. The benifits this company offers are great, including 4 weeks of paid time off from day one which is much higher than the industry standard. The salary is not bad, but is is not enough to keep you from looking for another job.

    Cons

the company is constantly being investigated for some sort of legal issue such as interpositioning in trades and things of that nature. Also they are starting to heavily rely upon call center reps based in the Philipines who don't know the first thing about the brokerage industry, or english for that matter.

    Advice to Management

    Hire domestic workers!

    Pros

Good career growth with many opportunities to work with many different technologies. Compensation is OK, maybe a little lower than competition.

    Cons

Very fast paced and stressful environment. Very high turnover rate with most of their developers overseas. Management does not balance personal life with work.

    Advice to Management

Work on communication, many of the departments are very fragmented and difficult to coordinate to get any work done. Compensation could be better.
