    Pros

Good health benefits. The 401k is not bad...average. Nice building. Company seems to be growing. Dual monitors are a true life saver.

    Cons

Qualified candidates are overlooked. Incompetent white males get promoted through the buddy system. There's hardly any people of color in management. Also, training sucks. It's essentially a "go figure it out" kinda place.

    Advice to Management

Employ diversity and just promotions based on merit. Create a system to vet someone's knowledge before making them a team lead. Stop allowing the blind to lead the blind.

    Pros

    Financial Domain. Stock brokerage industry.

    Cons

Bad management. You are put In multiple projects. They allocate your time as 10% in A, 5% in B etc Too much context switching giving you no time to concentrate on any single task.

Manager is ready to steal your work and present to SVP and Business that he alone created the solution. You are left puzzled. No credit to you at all. They treat you like slave monitoring your time-in and time-out.

As a developer you are supposed to handle QA, infrastructure. But they don't plan this effort. They think developer can handle anything. So you spend your personal time on this (nights and weekends).

Salaries are not great so better save yourself from this bad management.

    Advice to Management

Don't pamper Marketing Development Managers. If you cannot solve problems then don't become a problem. Don't think developer can do anything.

    Co workers and overtime availability

    Cons

Don't focus on the queue, train your reps to do their job and efficiency will come.

    Pros

Flexible working hours. Very open to changes especially when it comes to technology tools, etc. Better than average benefits (health and dental.)

    Cons

Lower than average salary and bonus. Office politics are off the charts and too many movements among directors, both on hirings, firings and switching positions.

    Advice to Management

Better pay means you'll get the best available talents.

    Pros

Small department - easy to learn who does what

    Cons

Angry and super insecure environment. Dog eat dog culture. Result of extremely poor management and it serves to weaken controls and make everyone miserable. Long hours with no thanks.

    Advice to Management

Think about engendering loyalty by fostering a more healthy work environment where people are valued and mentored.

    I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time

    Pros

Over-time is pretty much unlimited in most departments. Work an average of 50 hours a week and you'll make over $60k. Bonuses are based on performance but most folks will get $2-3K per year.

    Cons

Most managers are great, however, a couple of managers should be fired. There is a lot of opportunity to move but with a catch: no raise in Salary. If you apply, make sure you get a competitive rate. When I moved to a Senior Rep, I found out my salary was way less than other people who got the same position and we reviews lower than me.

    Advice to Management

Raises with Promotions should be cleared and fix amounts. Why would someone get 5% raise and another 10% raise when they get the same promotion?

Stable established firm with a solid niche handling fortune 500 stock plans

    Cons

    Advice to Management

High Standards demand performance on all levels

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paid training for the series 7 and 63 was great. Good work like balance. When your shift is over you don't have to think about etrade till the next morning. Overtime is always available and they pay time and half which adds up nicely. Most people there are young so making friends was really easy. I met some great people there. You learn a lot of about the industry and the markets. $5 trades

    Cons

Where do I start? It's a dead end call center job. The job title is very misleading. You're not a "financial services representative" nor a "broker". You're merely a customer service rep taking phone calls 8 hours a day/ 40 hours a week dealing with people's problems. You'll never realize how stupid some people are until you start working here. A lot of customers that call are 70+ years old and have no idea how to use a computer yet they use an online trading platform like etrade. Management could care less about you as a person. They only care about how many sales leads your generate a week because that's what affects their reviews and year end bonus. The client engagement program is awful. We are required to generate at least 8 leads a week for the financial consultants without any kind of compensation. We are essentially doing their job by uncovering outside assets. The financial consultants are a joke. They're not real advisors. They just try to put people's money in mutual funds that do terrible. The online brokerage industry is so saturated and competitive, the only way the fc's tag new assets is try to sell promotions and lower commissions- and they get hefty quarter bonuses for that. Very unfair. Promotions in this company are a joke. They are just lateral movements to a different department in the call center. The only real way to make real money is to become and FC (which is incredibly hard) or become a manager (which would take 7-10 years). You are also extremely micromanaged from day one. They give you a schedule everyday that tells you when to go to the bathroom and lunch. If you don't adhere to your schedule, one of the supervisors will immediately call you out. Turnover is incredibly high, they have to hire 15-20 people a month. The office is in Alpharetta, so if you live in Atlanta your commute will suck. Seriously, only take this job if you can't find anything else. The day I quit here will be one of the happiest days of my life

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the managers, senior managers, and directors. They're only in the position they are because they've been here so damn long. Start fresh and promote people that actually show leadership. Change the client engagement program to reward the top performers.

    Pros

Great work/life balance. Varies from team to team, but generally people here work 9-5.

Most of the people are nice.

There is an employer match for 401K.

    Cons

The building is dark and musty. They have not replaced the carpets, ventilation, lighting, etc. in years! Facilities are so outdated, uninviting and an embarrassment to visitors.

No perks whatsoever. Only a slow water machine and cheap coffee. Awful and expensive cafeteria. No free trades.

    Extremely outdated technologies and tools.

Not diverse. Mostly older, Indian men. Younger and non Indian employees leave.

Not a social, fun place. Generally dead and quiet. People are afraid to speak up and get nervous when executives from NYC come to town. They come in suits, are not down-to-earth, and intimidate their employees. Poor leadership and ineffective managers.

    Pros

You can run with ideas and implement new processes with very little resistance. Opportunity to do work outside your job description that you would not get to do any where else. Lots of opportunity to get a wide range of experience

    Cons

Work life balance, this is a sweet shop. No one will ever believe you got to do all the things you did at your level and you did it all in the limited time you decided to stay. But when you average 65 to 70 hours a week its easy to get the experience. You will work more hours that you did in the Big 4. If your good, management will not allow you to move between internal jobs.

    Advice to Management

Work life balance and pay your resources
