I worked at EAG Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diverse opportunities in a scientific laboratory environment. Good place to learn about regulatory requirements and gain laboratory skills that can be used to further a career elsewhere.

    Cons

Unwilling to invest time and money into young talent. Fairly high turnover rate. Lack of raises and promotions leads to stagnation, and loss of employees.

    Advice to Management

Many people throughout EAG Columbia are underpaid and not recognized for their education, experience, or combination thereof. I feel that EAG Columbia capitalizes on the fact that this is one of the only CROs in the Midwest. Many of its employees are bound to the area due to family, and therefore are willing to accept a salary far below what they are worth. For those not willing to accept a noncompetitive salary, the company’s willingness to give a raise or promotion appears to only be offered on the cusp of the employee leaving. This does not portray EAG Columbia as a company that allows their employees to advance. I believe this is why EAG Columbia has, and will continue to have, increasingly higher turnover rates among young talent. They are being underpaid, have little commitment to the area, and believe that their careers would stagnate at a company so unwilling to invest in their employees.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at EAG Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Low cost of living in mid-Missouri. Decently equipped laboratory with plenty of variation in the instruments that are available.

    Cons

Low pay, and low retention. Constant turnover at lower levels, coupling that with a very poor training system leads to the same mistakes being made over and over again. Unwillingness to have real career plan for most people looking to stay long term. Very often a stepping stone job, or a 'ended up here' kind of job for people relocating to the area for other reasons. The business hasn't grown in over 8 years in terms of employment numbers but still demands increase in profits every year. Current CEO has zero business experience and it really shows (Bucksath has not been CEO since some time in 2015) with poor communication skills and very lackluster decision making.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to secure good employees. Offer competitive wages and relocation packages to actually draw good talent to an area that doesn't have a lot to offer other than being a cheap college town.

I have been working at EAG Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Science colleagues are terrific. The work is interesting and you get exposed to many different materials to be analyzed. Very good company to develop technical skills as you search for a better company to grow your career.

    Cons

Newest executive team is tasked with only growing profits as they prepare to sell the company. Executives are incentivized based on this. Executives view technical staff as completely replaceable and only as numbers on a spread sheet. A recent executive hire from Sigma has brought a highly experienced and highly valued technical team to its knees as she whittles away senior staff. Last count was over 110 years of valuable company experience gone as she breaks the spirit of just several long term employees. These "numbers" on her spread sheet helped build the company. They backfill this experience with low salaries in order to reduce costs. She did similar damage to Sigma which is why she was hired.

    Advice to Management

I don't believe there is anything they will listen to. Despite "smiling" employees, morale across the company has never been lower in the >decade I've been there.

I worked at EAG Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers. Excellent laboratory experience. Leaders in the field of ecotoxicology research

    Cons

Management doesn't make it easy to do the work they tell you needs to get done (not enough supplies). Advancement options are extremely limited.

    Advice to Management

Stop holding onto employees who do barely the minimum amount of work to get by and hire some people who can handle the workload required of the job.

I have been working at EAG Laboratories full-time

    Pros

The company used to offer non routine analytical work. Lots of opportunity to learn. The company direction is now routine lab work at a high cost.

    Cons

The new executive staff has fired so many dedicated employees over the past two years. They fired two 20+ year veterans in January to cut operating costs. Both are terrific people who were betrayed by the company's embarrassing executives. Other valuable employees are quitting. Morale across the company has never been lower.

    Advice to Management

Grab your incentive checks and scurry into the shadows.

    Pros

Flexible hours, friendly coworkers, and that's about it.

    Cons

High level management is clueless! Before EAG bought out Wildlife International it was a wonderful company to work for and the employees were eager to please. I've never witnessed morale across so low across the board.
Now you are simply a number on a spreadsheet and the high level leaders don't have a clue. Outlook for this company is grim at best.

    Advice to Management

Too little too late I'm afraid.

    Pros

Hands-on work, busy all day in the lab, none of it comes home. The benefits are really good and I wouldn't give that up.

    Cons

Time-sensitivity for some tasks/studies may cause rushing and mistakes. Sometimes it's difficult to keep up communication for all of the players involved in a study.

    Advice to Management

Management should pay special attention to the environment of the labs located around the country and how the employees still feel part of a big team.
