I have been working at EBSCO Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits package is hard to beat and includes paid maternity leave. It's a stable company with a good profit-sharing program in place of a traditional 401K.

    Cons

I work for a subsidiary that changes direction too frequently and can't seem to keep a steady, long-term team. Because the company is so sales-focused, it seems to lose sight of how other activities long morale-boosting and effective public relations contribute to the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about the little people who work hard every day to keep the place running.

I worked at EBSCO Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

EBSCO employees are very nice and supportive. Great benefits and retirement.

    Cons

The current CIO Mike Gorrell is completely incompetent & single handedly destroying EBSCO Industries. Under his poor leadership and vision, EBSCO Corporate Information Technology has had consistent lay-offs for 3 straight years due to bad decisions. And now that Mike has failed EBSCO industries as a leader and wasted millions of EBSCO dollars, he now has a devious scheme to start a new company within EBSCO named OXBI Consulting to service internal and external clients. He is a bully that doesn’t accept criticism, lacks any empathy and uses extreme vulgar language. He surrounds himself around “Yes-Men” who lack any kind of backbone. His ineffectiveness to manage budgets has led to massive layoffs, failed IT projects, poor salaries and lowered employee morale. EBSCO is now having to sale-off many of its subsidiary companies; which points to a larger problem.

    Advice to Management

The Board of Directors should take immediate action in removing Mike Gorrell from the position of CIO. Mike is wasting millions of dollars due to poor decision making and lack of leadership skills. Please have an external audit performed to track Mike’s erroneous spending. EBSCO is in need of better Corporate Information Technology leadership and the board should remove Mike Gorrell and his direct reports within Corporate Information Technology.

I worked at EBSCO Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had a good experience overall. I worked for a small office in upstate NY that was owned by Ebsco. They offered great benefits, a 401K, and regular raises each year.

    Cons

I did not feel that I had many opportunities for moving up in my department because we were such a small office and most of the new employees were hired in another state where the company was based out of.

I have been working at EBSCO Industries full-time

    Pros

The people I work with are wonderful. The view of the headquarters is wonderful and access to a cafe is wonderful.

    Cons

Senior CORPIT leadership cannot make a decision and usually when they do, it is incorrect. Hostile work environment from corp it management makes it a less desirable place to work.

    Advice to Management

Consider removing the CIO. He is toxic to the environment. His ego is so big, he cannot accept any constructive criticism. He does not listen and does not value the employees under him. He has either forced or removed (Reduction in Force) great and extremely productive employees while protecting his good ol' boy friends. He spends too much money and then used the employees to be the scapegoat. This company could be great if they just put the correct leadership in place. The CEO enables this behavior.

I have been working at EBSCO Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent pay.
    Good benefits.
    Nice scenery.
Occassionaly, depending on who your manager is, the teams are bought lunches.

    Cons

85% of the employees sit on a high horse.
Raises are hard to come by, even if you do great work consistently.
If you aren't management, no one really cares about you.
There are definitely favorites. If you are not a "favorite" you are treated like crap.
Discrimination is huge. Contacted HR several occasions looking for help and they did nothing.
Cafeteria food will make you ill on the daily.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people who are on the bottom, who actually help run and keep the company going. You're losing good employees and laying off hard workers to let the "favorites" stay to sit on their behinds and do nothing all day, soaking up the benefits and high pay.
