I worked at ECS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay was good, benefits were decent, environment was fun at times. We saw VP level personnel more than with previous contracts, at our site. It was good to have more proactive communication.

    Cons

Local management was stymied by the customer, which was even understandable. However, some of the local management was hindered from retaining good employees because of the company not being willing to lose a little from profit to retain the knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be less aware of the latest management fads/buzzwords and go with treating your people right. If you have a manager who has a lot of unhappy people, it may actually be the manager. Or it may be the manager's relationship with that particular department. Involve everyone. Also, there are folks who get the mentality of having been too long in a position to be an expert who is "too valuable. " Their "entitlement" behavior can be a huge detriment to a team.

    Pros

Smart people, interesting product, adequate radar support equipment.

    Cons

Poor planning, inadequate spending on engineering support software and equipment. All risk rests on the shoulders of the engineers.

    Advice to Management

Buy modern computers and more licenses for engineering development software.

I worked at ECS (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary was a little better than most other companies.

    Cons

Could not participate in Government activities during work hours unless you did it during lunch hour or used your accrued leave time. If you wanted to participate with your Government co-workers for things like Organization Day or Bring Kids to Work, you had to use your earned leave time just to go to work. Discouraged a lot of employees!

    Advice to Management

Allow your employees to participate with their colleagues without having to use leave time.

    I worked at ECS full-time

    Pros

Was a good company for many years with a solid reputation of quality contracts for the Feds and also a good work culture. Had a good leader in the COO and the owner seemed to care about the employees as people rather than just something that either made him money or cost him money. Then, he hired a hot shot executive to grow the company and abrasively pushed out the COO. You know the story after that.

    Cons

I have to say that the many of the reviews here that are over the top positive appear to all be written by the same person. Same language use, same style. That kind of thing would not be beyond the new ECS. The company President and the Owner set about getting rich and it all became about growing as fast as possible at any cost. Some people like that kind of environment - generally the ambitious and the sycophantic. So that's what it became and the people who liked the former leadership left over time and what is left are the mean and the stuck.

    Advice to Management

You can't really talk to people that are greedy at that level. Nothing I say would make any difference with them.

    I worked at ECS full-time

    Pros

Compensation is not below average. The company appears to be doing fairly well so those still there seem not to face an immediate threat to lose job.

    Cons

Very minimal communnications from upper management. Appears to concentrate on staffing to position not concerned about building compenentcies focused on bottom line growth is through acquisition not strategic growth.
