I worked at EDSA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great talented designers. Worked on some interesting and diverse projects in the US and around the world, in different scales. My direct manager and senior staff were very open on project emails so I got to know what's going on about projects very well which I really appreciate. Family style events and gatherings are very nice. People from different cultures enriches the company culture diversity.

    Cons

Too many bosses, too many gossips sometimes negative. Corporate feeling is getting strong. Principals are all under great pressure of bringing money, getting things done, billing sooner, a little of lack on quality control on certain projects. Sustainable practice got started but not well applied, depending on clients's demand instead of professional principle.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent to each other instead of fighting each other. Whatever is up there can be sensed and passed on to lower level staff, which is not necessary healthy.

I have been working at EDSA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some nice people and a really flexible schedule should you need to go to a doc appointment or the like. Fairly laid back atmosphere where you interact with everyone from the lowest intern to the president of the company on a daily basis. Great insurance benefits.

    Cons

Extremely poor business management and workflows. Each studio is a silo competing against the others. Poor compensation and incredibly low quality managers. No room for growth and poor care assigned to employee mentorship.

    Advice to Management

Work together, communicate. Manage your teams as leaders and mentors who want to grow and nurture their employees strengths in order to create a efficient and engaged team. Manage your projects better by managing client expectations at the outset, writing proposals with realistic fees and time frames, not trying to go after work with unreliable companies or projects with unrealistic budgets and working with your team consistently to improve processes. Produce quality work every time. Don't cut corners, cheat or steal - this is bad business and will hurt you in the long run. Consistent, quality work will win out creating trusted client relationships and referrals - we live in an age of transparency so your crappy work is visible to everyone. Lastly, pay attention to your marketing strategy. Invest more time and resources in creating consistent branding and developing a solid digital presence - this is the present and future.

    Pros

Great benefits. Good culture. Friendly environment

    Cons

too many decision makers. unclear career path. a bit antiquated in some processes. Long hours, low base salary. Top management stuck in old ways to do things so new processes or technologies are not implemented by them. Need to lead by example more in order to improve.

    Advice to Management

take care of your employees better. People care about benefits but when pay is low we feel undervalued for the amount of time we spend working. Leaders need to mentor and managers need to lead and inspire their teams. Embrace changes and technology.

I worked at EDSA as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work with very cool people, most of whom are pretty laid back and have other interests besides just working.

    Cons

The pay in the landscape architecture industry in general is a huge negative for how hard you work to become one. I have heard that EDSA is among the best paying for entry level people, however.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring a wide range of people who have a variety of interests and like to be social and have fun outside of work. It keeps the atmosphere much more relaxed during the days.
