I have been working at EF Education First full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

EF is an amazing place to work (Boston or Denver). It has a young, active, innovative culture and goals are always celebrated! Your ideas will not go unheard at EF, no matter your experience. The benefits (travel, 401k, flexibility), the employees, and the culture are what keep people around in a very low-paying company. Many people get the opportunity to travel internationally in the first few years depending on... your product.

    Cons

EF describes your growth within the company as a spiral staircase, so be prepared to try something completely new after a few years in your role in a different product or to leave the company totally. I've seen colleagues start in shipping, move to IT, and then sales, or even move offices abroad to try something new. There is a ton of turnover because EF pay is very low, but if you can accept that, you will have an... amazing career here full of great experiences. Depending on your role, expect to work long hours during "busy season". I've never wanted to leave after I started 4 years ago. It's been an amazing work experience and continues to be, and I wouldn't trade it despite the low pay and sometimes long hours.

I worked at EF Education First full-time

    Pros

Great work environment and made the transistion to China very easy. Any problems from finding apartments, visas, to losing my cell phone were always taken care of by a native who was willing to take persona time to help.

    Cons

Long hours, vacations days were often blocked off during affordable travel dates.

    Advice to Management

Spread responsibility out between teachers. It’s not fair just because you’re the best teacher you have to work more classes than someone else.

I worked at EF Education First full-time

    Pros

Travel company so Travel is awesome. Amazing insurance because everyone is so young so they get a great deal from their insurance provider.

    Cons

Management does not care about employees working long hours. Management doesn't reward hard work. Management allows massive failures and massive over payment of crap furniture, breaks in lobbies in 2 months, by their design and marketing team. All so that they can show a "brand." Very Trump like. Brand is more important than quality. Impossible goals of host family recruitment with the lowest... reimbursement rate of all competition. Suck up to your manager is a must. Very Political. There is a separate pink book that floats around for management which I felt was just demeaning to employees and extremely hypocritical when they state they are not a hierarchical company. If you are not hierarchical then why doesn't EVERYONE get the pink book?

    Advice to Management

Design team makes plenty of mistakes and spends outrageous amounts of money on chairs which the students end up using for trashcans or they break withing months. Brand is NOT everything. Quality needs to be addressed at some time so that you are not WASTING money on furniture. Better staff pay results in happier staff working better and harder for a good environment for students. Delays by Design team can... affect others work as well. Listen and take advice from your experts on items you don't understand, even it might cost a little extra. This also can affect the work of others as they have to think about a work around.
