I have been working at EF Education First full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Everything we do at EF is about helping people build bridges across borders and cultures, spark mutual understanding, and create new opportunities. It's a mission that feels incredibly relevant right now. - Travel opportunities: I spent more than 3 months traveling abroad last year to some of the most amazing places including Spain, Sweden, UK, France, and Germany. Everyone travels once a year, most travel far... more than that. - The people. EF people make coming into work every day energizing and fun. - The benefits. Probably among the best on offer in Greater Boston.

    Cons

    - EF isn't for everyone; and in particular, folks who are looking for lots of structure and a clear path to promotion on an annual or semi-annual basis. People who aren't a good EF fit probably won't be happy here.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Staff events and professional development opportunities were fantastic in 2018. Not surprising that EF consistently ranks in the top 2 on the Globe's Top Places to Work list.

    Pros

Great place to start a career and learn the basics - lots of young people and travel opportunities

    Cons

I have been working at EF Education First for more than a year

    Pros

Fun work environment, good professional development, international travel opportunities, cool product, beautiful office, nice location, great benefits and health insurance, passionate and attractive co-workers

    Cons

You’re thrown into the fire, required to wear multiple hats at once, asked to work over-time and are substantially underpaid. EF has a complicated, unclear and at times misleading compensation structure and very high turnover, especially among entry level employees. The company is completely private about profit margins to its employees. The company also has few employees of color.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they’re worth and people will stick around longer than a year, be transparent, focus on hiring people of color

I worked at EF Education First full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good travel opportunities (the only reason this job got a 3). Great brand team who is adept at covering up negative reviews on glass door.

    Cons

Very bad pay for the amount of work you are required to do. The bonus system is based off unattainable goals. Whatever numbers you got the previous year, even if it was the best year your territory has ever had, they will ask you for a 20% increase the following year in order to receive you bonus. This is why people leave after 2 years. Also, there are very few ways to move up. There are only ways to move... horizontally. Also, management will treat you like a child and attempt to use "free beer" or "free swag" to distract employees from their low pay. They will also choose favorites, which would be fine, except that the ones they dont choose are chosen to suffer in meetings filled with inappropriate topics and passive aggressive comments.

    Advice to Management

Go back to school and learn some real management techniques. You are all petty. Try to be professional. Stop spreading rumors about your employees and act like adults. After YEARS of employees complaining about the pay, you spend millions o dollars on a BIKE TEAM?! Great job. good thinking. way to show off how much disposable money you have. smart.

I have been working at EF Education First full-time for more than a year

    Pros

International travel opportunities at least once a year with so many vacation days. Amazing coworkers.

    Cons

Directors very disorganized. Everyone is encouraged to be "creative" but ideas are often shut down. Not much room to move between positions.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your current employees time and their ideas. Work on how you speak to your employees.

I have been working at EF Education First full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I genuinely enjoy my colleagues that I work with, and am passionate about the mission of the product and company. My coworkers and I hang out often outside of work, and EF always has other things to get involved with. I've had paid travel opportunities presented on a regular basis. EF has a great benefits package, time off policy, and culture. Office is gorgeous and has both amazing views and natural light.

    Cons

Very high amount of turnover, which senior management admits is a part of their business model. Generally low salaries for the amount of time spent in the office. Professional development programs are lacking. The open office plan is very loud and can be distracting.

    Advice to Management

Find amazing people, and fight to retain them. So many hours and resources are spent training new staff that could instead be invested into increasing salaries and professional growth opportunities.

I have been working at EF Education First full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Work with other passionate, adventurous, open-minded people who will inspire you and teach you something new everyday. - Travel opportunities - Bar at the office-- a dangerously wonderful advantage - Depending on your product, there is no hierarchy to contend with. If you have an important question or idea, just go up to your president! - If you are a person who really wants to change how things are done, you... have an opportunity here. I'm not going to say it's easy, but it's rewarding and very possible. - A fun, respectful place to learn and grow - Can't emphasize enough: the like-minded people who will quickly become your friends!

    Cons

    - Because there is no hierarchy, it may feel daunting to navigate your career path. If you're someone who just wants to keep enhancing your title, EF is not for you. If you're someone who isn't exactly sure where they want to end up, and is ok putting yourself out there to try different things, then this is perfect! Just don't let yourself feel set back as you try new things. - The pay is not great, especially at... entry-level.

    Advice to Management

A lot of managers have earned their titles by working hard in their roles at EF. This is wonderful, and speaks to the opportunities available in the company. However, just because someone was good at their previous role, does not mean they immediately have the tools necessary to manage staff effectively. We have great personalities here- people like their managers, but I think it would be helpful to train management... more frequently on things they may not know inherently: how to recognize an employee's potential, how to have difficult conversations, what are different intrinsic motivators to encourage your team, etc. Once middle management is better supported, I think we would feel a huge shift in overall employee stability and happiness.
