I have been working at EFJohnson Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Understand the idea of work life balance.
Supervisor is very approachable and loves to teach.
    Upper management is also approachable.
Down to earth co workers and management.

    Cons

Really can't complain about benefits. The cost is reasonable.
    Pay could be higher.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving forward. Re evaluate the market and see if you need to adjust salaries.

I have been working at EFJohnson Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

We have about the sharpest engineering team I have ever worked on. Every single person knows their stuff and are helpful and fun.

The products we create are leading edge and have a direct impact on first responders' ability to do their jobs.

The company culture is great - HR is committed to making EFJ a great place to work. We have flexible hours (per manager), casual dress, & frequent events.

Benefits are pretty good for the size of company.

    Cons

Completely understaffed in every department. The engineers do customer support in addition to crazy deadlines from sales committing to dates without asking engineering if it's even possible. Management's response is "thanks, keep working to make up the difference".

Laughable to no bonuses for anyone below director.

The same VP is responsible for marketing and engineering - so there is no one to balance the sales requests vs. reality for producing quality products.

Time-off policy is pretty stingy (2 weeks until 5 years) - and it's old-school separate vacation/sick time instead of one bucket of PTO. So, you can have tons of sick time and no vacation and be stuck.

    Advice to Management

    1. Get a VP of engineering so there's a voice at the table that understands what the limits are.
    2. Update to PTO and be more generous with employees who work 50-60 hour weeks.
    3. Realize that the crisis is over and there is a lot of competition for good software people.

I worked at EFJohnson Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Technology for P25 radio systems is innovative and more efficient than older technologies offered by companies such as Motorola and Harris. Small company environment backed by JVCKenwood which provides resources for manufacturing and research.

    Cons

Small sales force that rely on Kenwood for sales support. Unfortunately they are not that familiar with P25 digital systems and are not enthusiastic about pushing EFJohnson products. In pursuing large contracts they have had limited success and Sales management have made poor decisions on staffing and strategies.

    Advice to Management

In areas that I worked in, we were understaffed and had an unrealistic work schedule which resulted in a stressful work environment and subject to constant pressure. Headcount constraints imposed by corporate nevertheless resulted in layoffs which makes conditions even worse. My advice to management would be to value experienced employees and not be so quick to reduce staff as this will result in a high degree of dissatisfaction.

    Pros

Paired with a motivational leadership team and clear strategy, the Company's growth potential is being realized. EFJohnson holds great momentum in the marketplace and is set for success.

    Cons

This depends on the way EFJohnson handles growth and growing pains.

    Pros

Commission program Ok at best. Many employees are doing the best they can

    Cons

Change in leadership, 3rd CEO in 3 year, 3 territory changes with 3 reorganizations. Total lack of leadership. Executive Management Team does not have high ethical standards.

    Advice to Management

    Ethics first and foremost.....

I worked at EFJohnson Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Probably the most fun at a job I ever had; loved the people I worked with, great entrepreneurial atmosphere, did a lot with a little and they respected the work - life balance.

    Cons

The ghost of EF Johnson past was always there rearing it's head. No matter that we demonstrated live fire trucks rolling over our products and they still worked, or our receiver sensitivity out performed the competitors. Time and time again we lost sales to a known brand over ours because of poor quality in the distant past. Never really hurdled that obstacle fully and EF Johnson was eventually bought by JVC Kenwood. Not sure how relevant my Pros are now

    Pros

Great product with the Viking radio.

    Cons

Lagging behind the market. No clear direction on future plans

    Advice to Management

Make decisions and select leaders that can lead the company. You should find someone like the previous CEO, Andrew Adams who lead with passion, intelligence and keen business sense.
