    I worked at EKS&H full-time

    Pros

EKS&H is a great place to work and start you career, has really nice new offices, realistically you could get a free lunch every day at the firm through . many firm paid for happy hours. It is a growing company with lots of opportunity in all areas of the field

    Cons

change from a small to a large CPA. while they try to maintain the culture of the small firm, realistically it is no longer possible, and the success at the firm depends highly on the group you are initially put in. This changed has resulted in higher turnover than in prior years.
While their is opportunity to move, the firm has needs in specific areas and it is really difficult to change fields once you have gained an expertise.

    Advice to Management

Put less emphasis on the new generation of millennials being the issue. Since it is a big firm now, it is understandable that managers do not have as much time to be in the office, and seniors have more responsibilities than before. Feeding employees and expensing happy hours will not bring long-term satisfaction to the next generation of employees. Listening to them is important. Staff and Seniors are not trying to complain, but we have to be aggressive in our communication since management and partners are rarely in the office anymore (due to firm needs).

    I worked at EKS&H full-time

    Pros

Parties, lunches, play dates, what's work? There are some very intelligent staff in the client facing roles for mentors purposes.

    Cons

There's a serious division between client facing employees and Operations, and maybe for good reason. Unfortunately the management style in Operations is outdated and severely under qualified. There's a lack of accountability, skills, and professional rigor. Many of the well qualified staff left during my time due to poor management. Management wasn't qualified and many were grandfathered in to these roles. As a result, there's no upward mobility and little growth potential for staff. Look elsewhere if seeking a role with long term growth. The morale in this department is very poor for the reasons listed above. COO is disengaged and looks the other way.

    Advice to Management

    Operations needs a complete revamp.

    Pros

Great work environment, partners work one on one with you a few times a year, and casual dress code! They pay $3000 for CPA materials! $2000 bonus for passing the exam! Their holiday parties are out of control and will make any college grad feel right at home!

    Cons

Busy season can become stressful but that's the nature of the business. Long seasonal hours 60-65 hour work weeks during Feb through April, and August through October.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep the small company feel as the company continues to grow.Don't make rash, emotional decisions. Communicate when plans change, or commitments will not be met.
