I worked at EMC as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good office space, nice people. My supervisor was very nice and understanding person. This job was very stable at a big corporation.

    Cons

I didn't get to do anything remotely exciting while I was there. The system I worked on was very old and the code base was a mess. It took me 1-2 weeks to get my workspace setup and actually start on projects.

    Advice to Management

The current new hire orientation can be streamlined more. I had to set up a lot of stuff that turned out not to be relevant to my job and wasted a lot of time.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The brand is broadly recognized as the best, the employees, especially sales and presales, have complete autonomy on most sales-related tasks, and the company has solid benefits in terms of health, car insurance, etc. and the flexibility in each employees time-management is useful for starting other initiatives like additional certifications and studies.

    Cons

Sometimes, it's impossible to understand the promotions of certain people and the patience the company has with people that either have a very bad attitude or are just plain incompetent, also, while switching between positions of the same hierarchy is fairly easy, further development and linear growth in one particular area is very VERY difficult

    Advice to Management

Be a little more mindful of what people are doing with their time in the company and take that into account when promoting them as to avoid loosing talent, and establish a clear criteria for evaluating them because the current process comes off as subjective and unclear.

I have been working at EMC full-time

    Pros

Great work culture - amazing, after time spent at both IBM and Oracle. Friendly, courteous co-workers, all with great attitude.

    Cons

A big company that still operated like a small company..not really prepared to operate as a Software Company. Maybe the merge with Dell will change that.
