I have been working at EMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It used to be a very much people company, but now a days with all those layoffs, can't say this anymore. Perks are good.

    Cons

Layoffs, budget cuts, lack of innovative approach. Salary could be better but anyway until recent turn of events didn't complain much.

    Advice to Management

Don't just outsource to India or China. Recognize people's potential and loyalty for the company.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Local team and management was excellent. Had a great culture and was very inclusive. Nearly a complete lack of politics.
-LOTS of availability to take classes, eLearnings, etc.
-Benefits package and other compensation were excellent

    Cons

-Upper management were completely blind and reactionary. Absolutely unimaginitive and unadaptive.
    -Very little room for advancement
-HR was on the company's side and mistreated/threatened employees with disabilities or other such concerns.
-Seemingly no repercussions for employees who consistently dropped the ball. No reward for those who always pick it up.
-Very strong recruitment scheme (Associate Program) makes staff disposable in management's eyes.
    -terrible work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

-Don't treat your staff as disposable.
-Don't expect a whole division to go from 50% compliance on a metric to 98% compliance in a month.

    Pros

The medical coverage is good and by far better than or at par with top employers

    Cons

The place seems to be stagnant and no scope for future growth.

I worked at EMC as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good office space, nice people. My supervisor was very nice and understanding person. This job was very stable at a big corporation.

    Cons

I didn't get to do anything remotely exciting while I was there. The system I worked on was very old and the code base was a mess. It took me 1-2 weeks to get my workspace setup and actually start on projects.

    Advice to Management

The current new hire orientation can be streamlined more. I had to set up a lot of stuff that turned out not to be relevant to my job and wasted a lot of time.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

An opportunity to grow and thrive as it is possible depending on the location you are based - to transfer to other product lines be they hardware or software based resulting in an expanded skill set.

    Cons

A great deal of uncertainty as EMC is digested by Dell - what products will remain.
How will Dell handle the increased debt load.
EMC is shedding staff and looking at lowering costs by hiring in their "centres of excellence"

    Advice to Management

Take a break from primarily hiring GSAP's as their lack of technical skill IS impacting CSAT and TTR. you are being penny wise but pound foolish
