I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many different opportunities available. I was with them through the glory years, the downturn, the turn around, and the fade and merger. Through it all, I really enjoyed my time there. I always felt that it had a good engineering/technology focus.

Always had plenty of different types of technology to work on and training/certification was encouraged.

    Cons

Suffered a bit from having too many products and the struggles of integrating products from acquired companies.

As hardware has become more and more marginalized, they are trying hard to shift to more software and services. They have done a good job but it's a constant struggle to compete with all the small players that pop up and steal mindshare and market share.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -Excellent pay and benefits.
-Company is very supportive of remote/telecommute employees with policies and technology

    Cons

-The pros applied to EMC as an independent company; unknown what Dell will change or take away.
-Ongoing offshoring of engineering functions to India and China.
-Disconnect between executive optimism and individual reality in the North America geography.

    Advice to Management

-Keep some technical people in North America
-Don't lay off people during "Better Together" celebrations.

    Pros

Great people to work with. Many knowledgeable minds to learn from. You will never be bored. Great technology to play with. Superior benefits.

    Cons

The hierarchy structure tends to make an individual contributor think that they are not an important part of the company. there is also a very political atmosphere which means lots of red tape to cut if you want to see something done. It is also a company that does not innovate, but instead simply purchases companies that innovate.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits we had an EMC were amazing. The medical/dental plans that were offered were spectacular compared to what else is out there. The vacation time was also comparable too.

    Cons

When we were acquired by Dell everything went downhill. There was no communication from the Dell side. We were not included in any decisions or communication. Everything we got was filtered through other people. We were trying to integrate the two systems (I worked in HR) and they would send out the wrong link to employees and we on the EMC HR side would have to deal with all of the question. They would never send out a follow up email stating the correct link. And we were not allowed to send anything out to clarify.

    Advice to Management

If your intention was to drive out all the legacy EMC employees. You definitely succeeded. Between the layoffs and normal attrition you have driven many out. And the few that are still there are miserable so it's a matter of time before they leave too. It's really a shame, because we did have a great company during the Egan, Ruettgers days.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great support and resources availble in both EMEA and the US. Good cross over assistance between different departments e.g. Sales and Tech Support.

    Cons

There is not great scope to move within the Company beyond Sales and Management. Not many employees move into the Tech support side of things and perhaps this should be encoraged move with the introduction of optional training courses made available.
