I worked at EMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great, hard working people who know their stuff and have been in the industry for the long haul. Pretty flexible

    Cons

Same as all other large public companies, lots of employees, lots of levels of mgmt and lots and lots of meetings and conference calls

    Advice to Management

I honestly don't have any real advise to Mgmt., it's a big company employs need to just go with the flow of mgmt team.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to start your IT career. Great health benefits and matching 401K. Loved the GSAP program. Great place for short-term, but not for long-term. Learn as much as you can for a few years and then go to another company. In this industry, you get paid more by leaving a company and being hired with a new company.

    Cons

It is difficult to have job growth at EMC especially when they outsource most positions. I was hired to be in professional services but I return from GSAP training, and it was a job that I did not apply for. Even if you offer yourself for more work, don't because you will not recognized, but if you do, senior management disapproves because you busted their OT budget. Lots of re-organizations here. If you are in customer service, be prepared to deal with micro-bean-counter senior management. Can't retain talented individuals. Low retention with senior level employees.

    Advice to Management

Be open to allowing your employees wanting to move out of customer service. Stop pigeon-holing your employees into specific products and allow them to broaden their horizons.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very fulfilling work on client engagements. Many long-term projects that provided stability. Excellent training opportunities.

    Cons

I worked for this company and a prior company that it bought for over 15 years. Was very dedicated and spent few periods of time in between projects. I was constantly extended on client engagements - then during a down-sizing, I was let go.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees better and their circumstances. In the last 6 months of employment I had 2 different managers and did not meet either in person, just 1 phone call and team meetings.

I worked at EMC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company bought MTN and did not have time to work much with them.

    Cons

Not many advancement opportunities. You must make the best of their education packages and look elsewhere.

I worked at EMC (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great educational services and great skill sets for an overall amazing resume. Awesome middle management as well.

    Cons

Dell acquisition made you just a number and no job stability unfortunately. Loved the company but unfortunately I was just a number when it came to workforce redistributions

    Advice to Management

Look at people not as a number but on how they perform. Why let go of skilled employees that have been consistently exceeding and been with the company for over a decade?

I have been working at EMC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn, improve ones technical expertise. But could do a better job providing current resources to their technical sales teams to have hands on experience with the newer version of their hardware. Hard to go to customers and help them with the latest equipment when you only have old equipment in the labs.

    Cons

Expect you to work yourself ragged, every quarter is "the most important quarter of your career", just burn through people.

    Advice to Management

Stop all the "fluff" about how good things are at EMC, and take a reality check. You can't keep pushing people to the point of exhaustion, and not reward them.

There are lot of EMC product out in market and you will always have work.

    Cons

Promotions and salary hike are for chosen few . it is very closed licensed based products , so you are stick to it for rest of your career. Company put his profit first and foremost before employee. lots of management changes makes you wonder where you will be tomorrow.
