I have been working at EMC full-time

    Pros

Both Dell and EMC have excellent products. There is very little overlap between the companies so customers and partners have more choice with their offerings

    Cons

The culture of Dell versus EMC is extremely different. People make the company so I believe the new combined will need to quickly address this.

    Advice to Management

Products and solutions are only as good as the organization and people behind them. The culture gap between Dell and EMC will need to be quickly addressed.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people on the team.

    Cons

Weak management. Little support to employee vs. either EMC sales staff or external customers. Long hours, with no tracking or monitoring by management.

    Advice to Management

Learn to job scope properly. Learn that sales staff is not always right. Support your employees that are delivering messages management requires delivered to customers when the customers don't want to change. Don't simply require the SAMs to personally make up the difference in delivery for changes in practice or policy set by EMC. Back them when they say "No".

    Pros

Good technical experts to learn from.
    The benefits are top-notch.
A generally congenial attitude among employees.

    Cons

The company is awash in second-rate thinking. The best incumbents left and bright people simply won’t work here. The result: “C” players making decisions that grade out as “F”.
Politics, passive/aggressive behavior and self-congratulations are straight outta Comedy Central.
Meetings. Endless, aimless, utterly unproductive meetings. Dozens gather in rooms and by phone to “participate” yet accomplish nothing. Some managers judge success by the number of meetings they attend.
Micromanagement wasn’t invented here, but it was perfected here.

    Advice to Management

Mister Dell, you have a lot of work to do. This company has more dead wood than the great Petrified Forest. Lean management is desperately needed.

    Pros

Great People and Environment. Wealth of Information

    Cons

Stuck as Contractor for 2 years, no benefits, no PTO, no Sick time. Never take a Contract Job with EMC.

Even with being able to access so much information, if you think outside the box and do it wrong. Your @ss is Grass.

Have moved through 6 different projects, Un-able to move up to more technical role, not from lack of trying.

    Advice to Management

It has all been said before in other reviews.
