    Pros

Sales runs the company and if your are a part of it in any way you will be rewarded for a job well done. They appreciate their good people and you will know where you stand with management. If you have the skills you will always have a place at EMC. The pace is fast and if you enjoy technology this is a great place to work. There are tons of technical and sales jobs at your disposal. Take advantage of the opportunities to move around EMC and get to know as many aspects of the company as possible, it will pay off in the end.

    Cons

The pressure is high and the pace is fast. Don't expect a vacation at the end of the quarter because sales are job #1. You are needed to help make sales happen, no matter what you do at EMC. Always negotiate your salary up front because EMC is a large company and they don't have a lot of room to change your salary once you join. If you can't deal with the amount of work or the pace of the job you might not want to join EMC. Management has no time for slow workers and if they don't like you your job will be gone before you know it.

    Advice to Management

Management does a great job of trying to balance their employees work and home life as best they can and the employees really appreciate it.

EMC is a fast-paced highly adaptive company that is always making changes to stay competative, and up on the technology of its business. The constant change helps build your professional knowledge base and expand your skill set. The adaptation of the business allows for many new projects and opportunities for advancement and lateral transfers if your job does not quite fit your skill set.

    Cons

EMC is a large company with a department for every aspect of the business, building a set of contacts to help you perform at the highest level is difficult and time consuming when getting started as a new hire. Sometimes a simple task takes far to long because of the different departments and the lack of proper contacts or understanding of what each department does.

    Advice to Management

Speak more about long-term project plans and goals, as much as short-term release based goals

    Pros

EMC has a new program being rolled out called WorkWise. It enables employees to work remotely. Schedules can range from a partial remote, full remote or a hybrid which consist of mixing extended hours for a shorter work week. They also have excellent benefits. They provide an comfortable working environment with access to the latest technology.

    Cons

Raises are not great. They are very conservative when compensating employees where salaries do not keep up with the cost of living.

    Advice to Management

To listen to their employees and also compensate them for their work. We take pride in our work and we should get compensated accordinly.

    Pros

Working in Professional Services allows a good work/life balance. You may have to wok hard sometimes but other times it is not too bad. People are respectful of when you need to take care of personal items and issues and many people telecommute. This is essentially a virtual organization now and with that, meetings and collaboration can sometimes be difficult. Expect to only see your manger's face 3 times a year. That can be good or bad depending on how much you can get done remotely and independantly.

    Cons

    Insane sales people and customers.

    Advice to Management

    Pay your employees more.

    Pros

The company is consistently successful so the jobs are normally safe. High achievers can get good bonuses. Stock options are given although the stock has not gone up significantly in many years (although then some blips). The company has bought many smaller companies which offer different technical options for engineers.

    Cons

Some jobs are stressful and lack growth options. The company periodically fires low performers. When this is done the individual must leave the next day. It is possible to be a mediocre performer and hide. The company is good at maintaining and putting out its core products but not so good at introducing new products.

    Advice to Management

    Do not outsource.

"Most unprofessional company I've ever worked for..."

    Pros

At the time I worked there, the salary was market rate. Flexible with working remote. Looks good on resume.

    Cons

Highly political. If you are on the West Coast, brace yourself for working with an East Coast company. An Old White Boys network that was sexist to say the least. Really bad managers are allowed to stay because of who they know in the company and this forces good employees out. Not uncommon for employees to be dressed down by management in front of their peers. Truly the worst, most unprofessional company I've ever worked for. I left a few years ago and the memory of it still haunts me.

    Advice to Management

Hire experienced managers, not the friends of employees to do the job. Ensure managers attend training on how to manage people, and to learn what is appropriate conduct in an office since many of them don't have a clue and behave like it's still the '70s.
