    Pros

Lots of opportunity. They are good at helping plan your career and allowing you to move within the company to different roles.

    Cons

It's a very big company and it's easy to get lost. Sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Getting everyone on the same page is sometimes problematic given the sheer number of products and services we sell.

    Advice to Management

Better communication as to strategic direction. Be very clear about what we are trying to accomplish and make sure everyone has the tools and resources to do their job. That's what management is all about. They do a pretty good job, but it could be better.

    Pros

Financially stable, at least for the moment

    Cons

Big company mentality -- bureaucratic, slow to react, entrenched ways of doing things persist even if they are counter-productive.

    Advice to Management

Fire the entire IT department and get people who understand that IT's job is to make the company's people more productive.

    Pros

There are many opportunities for advancement and/or lateral movement within EMC, as it is a large company with many divisions. EMC has a good education program, and provides employees with access to labs, documentation, whitepapers, discussion groups, etc, where we can learn more about EMC products and develop & test procedures prior to going onsite. And as a storage professional, it's definitely a plus to work for the #1 player in the storage industry.

    Cons

Communication & coordination between divisions is sometimes difficult. There is little organization or search capability within the company intranet resources. Within the professional services organization, EMC management seems to focus more provide more for the presales personnel than the post-sales/delivery group.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities for postsales personnel, such as a yearly conference for the delivery teams. Compensate/reimburse for 3rd party certifications.

    Pros

The company offers flexible work hours/location - could telecommute once a week and start late, leave late on other days to beat traffic. Offers good large company benefits, though time-off could be better. Lot of coporate benefits available at head quarters in Boston, not in bay area.

    Cons

Too silo'ed, corporate head quarters in east coast is like different company. With the new software acquisitions, in different places, info aleays has to flow bottom-top-bottom. Not much lateral communication.

    Advice to Management

improve transparency in decision making, delegate. management jobs seem to get guaranteed promotions senior, group /director levels; but no such luck for Technical ladder.

    Pros

first job out of college so nothing great. One thing good about working at emc is you get to work from home. There is cubes or anything but your own home office. I think this is one of the best thing working at emc. Besides this, nothing great I could think of.

    Cons

Pay is not great compare to how many hours you work. 60hr/wk. At the begining, they tell you alot of good things at EMC during the hiring process. But, one you get in, you have no where to go. Mngt is always trying to make you do work at night, weekend and during vacation.

    Advice to Management

More recognition. When people work hard, they need to be recognized instead of mngt.

    Pros

Decent salary and freedom re: where to work and when.

    Cons

Too bureaucratic; culture of haves & have-nots; not enough resources to get done what we need to do and therefore quality suffers.

    Advice to Management

Staff projects appropriately so that we can produce quality products.

    Pros

Very good benefits other than pay. Easy to balance life and work. Not very aggressive in deliverables. If one can have good terms with management it is easy sailing.

    Cons

No challenges. Upper management and middle management is disconnected regarding company's future goals and objectives. The lower management is completely in dark about future.

    Advice to Management

Create a clear communication channel instead of pretending to be having one. Remove inefficient weak links in the middle management.
