I have been working at EMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big company health benefits, overly restrictive 401K. Annual email blasts from upper management will try to convince you to vote as Best Place to Work in the US, so the entertainment value is high if you like drama. In fact, if you like drama this might be your best place to work. No I'm serious.

    Cons

Management communication quality is among the worst. They opened a new "Center for Excellence" in India and started sending jobs there once someone in upper management from India was installed in the ranks. So while they may be hiring in Irvine, CA for some positions, rest assured that as soon as they can replace you they will.

    Advice to Management

It's OK to hire good managers, and to churn the bad ones. You've done neither very well. Some of these people routinely expose you to litigation on a weekly basis. I chuckle under my breath when I think of the other companies I've seen that also took a big fail on this (Motorola).

    Pros

    Ok pay
Very hard to think of anything else positive to day.

    Cons

Hardware based company with sales and engagement teams clueless of the digital world.
Internal IT systems the worst I've seen at any place.
    Work life balance is horrible.

Anyone considering employment at EMC should dig in and do your homework before joining. seriously, you have been warned!

    Advice to Management

For a technology company focus on data and IT, eat your own dog food and give your employees the best tools to work with.
Take a good look at the mindset and culture create and honestly ask yourself are you competitive in a digital world?

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits are the only thing I can think of that are of any value if you work for this company.

    Cons

Rampant nepotism, no useful training, no raises, no respect, caters to college grads and supplies them with extensive training, etc. What you get for a salary is pretty much what you will continue to get year after year unless you work a lot of extra hours without compensation.

    Advice to Management

You should understand that your employees are people and overwork themselves for you. They deserve respect and compensation for their hard work.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay used to be good now just like any other IT company. Not a major incentive anymore. If you have the memory the size of their storage arrays to learn everything they require you to know then you can hold your job. If not they toss you out like garbage.

    Cons

60 hour plus work week. Run by Sales, Customer Service organization going down the toilet . Used to be first in any industry. Now company run horribly. Required to be A+ player anything less not satisfactory. Too much pressure. Local and Corp Management all basically have ni human skills to empower their workforce but rather use intimidation tactics to keep you working hard. Run like a concentration camp. Management poor at all levels in all org groups.

Stock reflective through the years ( pathetically hasn't moved much in 10 years). Other companies such as Hitachi, NetApp and HP much better

Quality of life is none existent. You are expected to be available anytime all the time.. really.
Company has become pathetic to work for. Never ever work for this company. You have been warned. ......

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Joe Tucci. He has only done damage to the company and in 14 years hasn't done much for the stock price. Pathetic leader..

Good resume builder and lots of learning opportunities

Company picks favorites and some leaders have no ability to manage. You never know what you're in for.

    Advice to Management

Stop picking favorites and actually hire people that have the right skill sets.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is good if you hit your number

    Cons

    1980's management top to bottom
Abusive QBR practices, telling people they will be fired in front of their peers if they don't get their numbers up
Internal competition between divisions creates a zero sum game of I win you lose and vice versa inside the company - teams compete against each other instead of doing what's right for the customer.
Oh, and did I mention that in the field sales organization less than 5% of the reps are women? EMC is an all testosterone all the time environment.

    Advice to Management

    Wake up, it's 2014.
Abusive sales management has no place in a company in this day and age.
You might look at why the stock performs so poorly, then take a look in the mirror to see if it might have something to do with the way the company is being managed.

    Pros

Great technology, training and work from home

    Cons

Lack of diversity, poor work life balance. Very difficult corporate culture, not a good place if you are female or a minority. There's a reason why this company is never on the 'Best Companies to Work for' list!

    Advice to Management

There's no hope here. Any change would mean they would not have jobs.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Management has become to political, not as good as they think. The report/forecast is what drives the organization.
