I worked at EMC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

EMC has provided opportunities to advance engineering careers through opportunities to develop leading-edge storage products.

    Cons

Salary plans are a step behind:
     - Engineering salaries are partly an "MBO" which is actually "salary at risk", meaning it won't be paid if things beyond your control don't happen, such as sales goals.
     - Raises are subject to downward adjustment for reasons other than personal performance; e.g. promotions for others, the performance of the division.
     - The merger with Dell is fomenting sub-standard raises as Michael Dell has noticed EMC Massachusetts pay scales are higher than Dell Texas-based payscales.

    Advice to Management

IP and talent are literally walking out of the building. If Dell EMC management is committed to turning this around, they should survey those that resigned in the last year, including early retirees, asking the hard questions.

    Pros

    -Excellent pay and benefits.
-Company is very supportive of remote/telecommute employees with policies and technology

    Cons

-The pros applied to EMC as an independent company; unknown what Dell will change or take away.
-Ongoing offshoring of engineering functions to India and China.
-Disconnect between executive optimism and individual reality in the North America geography.

    Advice to Management

-Keep some technical people in North America
-Don't lay off people during "Better Together" celebrations.

    Pros

Very friendly and cooperative colleagues. Lots opportunities to learn new things for technical track. People are willing to help. There is a good work/life balance.

    Cons

No career advancement opportunity for management track. Lots of politics at senior management level. It's not about who does a good job. But then that is the same in all big companies.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing politics and do what is the right thing for the company.

    Pros

    - smart, intelligent and dedicated colleagues
    - lot of events, parties, outings, pot lunch through both university relations and internal team etc.
    - My manager was very nice. Unlike some managers who just want to get the work done, she invested time and resources for me to learn things.

    Cons

Due to the merger, there are a lot of cost cuttings and I saw a lot of people being fired or leaving in a very short time.My own team was almost half when I left.

    Advice to Management

    Try retaining good employees.
