I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Stable company with a robust R&D program that results in solid performance and revenue each year.
The mid-level managers are generally pretty good, and most people are really nice.
Good opportunities to move up early in your career but these can stall out as you get to the mid-to-senior engineer level.

A great place to work if you're looking to come in and do your job, and go home. Long term stability is a real plus.

If you're a high performer they really take care of you.

    Cons

I'm not sure how the integration will change things. When the company was smaller it was much better but they were able to maintain as much of the culture as you could expect after being acquired by Merck KGA and becoming EMD Millipore.

Not a lot of technically challenging roles.

Because it is so stable many people end up staying until retirement if they can. This can be great, but it also means a lot of younger talent has to leave to move up. I always did well here but wasn't seeing the development opportunities that I wanted and had to leave to make the kind of steps forward, in my career, that I was looking for.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on development. Many companies now offer great development programs for people they view as high performers. Thing such as job rotations and internal development programs can give people the opportunity to gain skills needed at the next level, see how the organization operates as a whole, and highlight to motivated individuals where they should focus on improving.

I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be a good company when I first started there. Had some good opportunities over the years.

    Cons

Too many re-orgs in recent years and therefore increasing lack of stability. Difficult to build a consistent career in that environment. Watched positive corporate culture deteriorate over the years.

    Advice to Management

Watch your HR department. I found it not to be trustworthy because they repeatedly broke confidentiality, resulting in unacceptable backlash.

I have been working at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Millipore was a great company, with extraordinary people. EMD Millipore is not the same company, still good people, but not the same talent.

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy, too much nva work. Merck KGAA tries to dictate too much. Too much control placed in Germany where they are always on a holiday. All decisions are made in Germany. US workers constantly have to tell vendors "sorry the decision is made in Germany". Makes US wokera look like puppets.

    Advice to Management

Place the control where the work is.

    Advice to Management

I don't waste my breath on programmed corporate ladder climbers.
