I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Generally good team spirit and collaboration. Good level of mobility within the company to keep developing one’s career. A lot depends on your direct supervisor’s attitude, though, and their relationship with their team.

Company policies are flexible and focused on talent retention. Lots of great in-house training and support to attend off-site training. Decent, competitive benefits. Relatively higher salaries.

    Cons

Dramatic shifts since acquisition by Merck KGaA in 2010 and even further with Sigma-Aldrich integration since last year. The company has become a perpetual “in the process of integration” organization and it shows in reduced morale and generalized sense of uncertainty. Silo mentality is the rule rather than the exception. Too much depends on personal relationships as opposed to processes and shared goals.

    Advice to Management

Top management: stop making people grovel to keep their jobs, lay them off or leave them alone.

Middle management: learn about leadership, keep leveraging the many opportunities to learn in-house, take as many courses as you can.

Individual contributors: speak up, take in-house courses and learn as much as you can.

I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

EMD Millipore is a great company. I had the opportunity to grow and learn new skills. I started as a assembler and then a lead operator in the kitting room department and qualified trainer. And finally I was promoted to the Quality Inspector position.

    Cons

I started working 8 hours then they change the schedule to a 10 hours shift and in less than a year to a 12 hours shift. They let go managers, supervisors and group leader must of the time.

    Advice to Management

Treat people better and appreciated the work that they done for the company.
