I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

EMD Millipore is a great company. I had the opportunity to grow and learn new skills. I started as a assembler and then a lead operator in the kitting room department and qualified trainer. And finally I was promoted to the Quality Inspector position.

    Cons

I started working 8 hours then they change the schedule to a 10 hours shift and in less than a year to a 12 hours shift. They let go managers, supervisors and group leader must of the time.

    Advice to Management

Treat people better and appreciated the work that they done for the company.

    Pros

Diverse culture, Knowledgeable staff, meaningful work, fast paced, large company, balanced variety of research projects, realistic target objectives set, broad range of research opportunities

    Cons

Enormous bureaucracy, slow response to competition, not the leader in new product development, unequal division of labor and management, lack of on the job training, employee focus was replaced by penny pinching when Millipore became EMD

    Advice to Management

Use more time and money keeping employees happy. Effective communication between and across all levels of organization would increase efficiency and overall productivity.

I worked at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

EMD Millipore is a Key player in the Bio-science industry and has the potential to be a great place to work with many career opportunities. They have some wonderful people who have the ability to do amazing things.

    Cons

9 years in acquisition mode has depleted the workforce by dedicating most of the higher qualified people into projects teams or silos, geared towards transitions. While these teams sit in their catered meetings much of the workforce is driven to produce and Manufacture the products requiring long hours with very little to no compensation. Many of these people are temps and have been there for far too long.

    Advice to Management

There should be a min/max time set for the Temporary employees. If you have a temp that is a hard worker and has been with the company for a minimum amount of time, they should be hired on and given the same opportunities as the regular employees. In the very least the temps should be considered for any and ALL company functions including but not limited to the company picnic, the Holiday party, and being paid for Holidays or company shut downs.

Not always looking for the benefit of the team but for the benefit of certain individuals. Lack of team atmosphere

I have been working at EMD Millipore full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefit, beautiful offices, many friendly and intelligent colleagues. Slightly flexible work hours. Lots of training classes offered, plenty of cross-functional cooperation opportunities if you are in the right department.

    Cons

It was a very good company several years ago. but work life can be the hell if you don't have a good manager. Imagine a technical-focus department has no manager with advanced degree, can't make right decisions in time, can't sport the real problem, can't work with science mind, and can't hire right people. Development is only for certain people since budget is tight.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate people with their expertise, not how confident they show. Strategy and all kinds of innovation idea is good, but management should hear the bottom layer employee's voice. Stop cutting corners if you still want to be a great company.
