I have been working at EMD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work alone most of the time (double edged sword)

    Good pay for the industry

    Cons

You will never be able to do anything right. It will always never be enough. If you work here, you will be lectured at for the smallest of issues. They expect perfection without training on their internal processes.

You will be taken advantage of if you are salaried. You will be expected to work 65+ hour weeks without even a thanks. This is standard. If you count drive time it is more like 80+ hour weeks. You will be required to drive 2+ hours to get on site every day without getting paid for it. They give you a company car, but so does everyone else. It gets old really fast.

You will not be given tools to do your job. You will be onsite hours away from anyone and get reprimanded for not bringing an obscure tool you need. Project managers will know you need it but forget to tell you, then yell at you.

They steal money from customers by using "billable hours" as their cover up. While you are in training they will put your time on a customer job. They expect you to bill your time on your time-sheets to customers even if you did not do work for them. You will be asked to sit in a car on a customers site to be able to bill hours to the job while doing ZERO work, or doing another customers work on your laptop. (double billing)

There is not room to advance. Either your project manager quits / gets fired, or you stay in the same position forever.

Management will watch your car on gps like a hawk and call you angry every time it glitches and shows you are not exactly on site (its weird... like stalker ex girlfriend weird)

    Advice to Management

You are not superior to anyone. People will work for you if you treat them with respect.

Do not expect people to automatically know what to do. Get rid of your elaborate and ridiculous time tracking systems. It takes up so much time which could be used to do actual work.
