I have been working at EMIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

EMIS was a typical entrepreneurial venture for the first 13 years of its life - fast growing, high-energy, aggressive expansion. This made it fun place to work, but as with most fast-growing, decentralized companies, was often disjointed and inconsistent. After the 2008 economic downturn, EMIS recognized that the company and the market had matured to the point that the "entrepreneurial" company now required structure,...

    Cons

The period from the global economic crash in 2008 to 2014 were tough years of focusing on efficiency and learning how to be successful when clients were becoming more demanding and more frugal. Now, with most of the new management team in place, there is clear direction and a much more positive outlook.

    Advice to Management

Keep the company changing. EMIS needs to always be dynamic.

I worked at EMIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Non-hostile environment, international peers, engaging in multiple facades of the b2b finance information sector, flexible working locations

    Cons

This company displays some of the classic symptoms of "multi-national corporation ill-fitting syndrome." Incompetent senior management and mid-level managers that have little engagements with their colleagues. Unless you are in sales/client service, or hight levels of product and IT management: most entry-level jobs in product and IT are tedious and time consuming. Why so? This is due to the rigid web framework this...

    Advice to Management

You hired all those bright people and you drove them away one by one. Time to wake up and start from scratch. The company rated 2 stars for its overall performance- but seriously, the engaging colleagues saved a star for you.

    I worked at EMIS

    Pros

Uniquely international culture A business with a solid reputation in its industry Opportunity for international travel A culture of promotion from within A number of entry level job opportunities for those interested in getiing exposure to the electornic information business

    Cons

Probably not up to market levels in salaries in various places Part of a publicly traded group which can impede the company's ability to maneuver autonomously. Although ther is a culture of promotion from within, many position at the company are not likely to offer much career advanacement potential
