I worked at EOG (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed dress code. There's not much else that I can say that was great. I really liked some of my coworkers that I worked with in my department.

    Cons

Management was awful. Contractors were treated like second class citizens. Too much favoritism. They don't value the people that actually work hard.

    Advice to Management

Get people that are actually qualified to manage people.

I worked at EOG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Happy I no longer work there. When the price of Oil and Gas is high, outlook is promising. When Oil/Gas prices drop, watch your back.

    Cons

Backstabbing goes on all the time. Do not trust any co-workers if you plan to work there.
Cutthroat environment. Spoiled adult brats everywhere think they are entitled.
The Geo team are highly egotistical and act extremely pretentious. They act as they run the entire organization. EOG as a whole has around 2,760 employees total as this isn't a large company. However, you'd think they were in the White House leading the world. VP's and EVP's are groomed years prior to holding 'executive' positions. Magically they float up through the ranks.
It's now what you know..it's who you know. %98 of the people there would fail in a company larger than 25,000 employees. Employees in the office Chewing tobacco at their desks and HR doesn't do a thing about it (good ole boys). Employees in the office also smoking e-cigs at their desk and HR just walks on by. Office cliques very abundant as well.

If you want a real Oil & Gas job....I'd suggest living in the Houston, Texas area and staying away from the snobbish Fort Worth office crowd.

    Advice to Management

Management has zero clue on seeing the big picture.

Great Folks to work with. Pay is low for non engineers, but fun guys to work with.

    Cons

Unqualified Managers; Need to look at professional support drpartmentsand shake out the good old boys and fill the positions with bright ethical professionals. Ethics is needed at field level.

    Advice to Management

Hire Professional staff outside of the engineering positions. There are Grade A engineers present at the company, you need marquis staff associated non engineer professionals.

I have been working at EOG full-time

    Pros

Very good benefits, with plenty of time off.

    Cons

Core management are holdovers from the Enron days. If you work for one, and they are not happy with something, you will not get a chance to either move up or laterally. Do not take a position here unless that is what you really want to be doing, as your chances to move are about nil. This is especially so in the A/P department.

    Advice to Management

When you have a good employee who shows an interest in another position, and has the aptitude for it, a good company with give them a chance...a poor one will not.

"Ageism and top-down management is the rule"

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good business model with proven success.

    Cons

Rife with ageism. Read the fair employment statement at the end of this job ad. If you're late 40s or over, it's not the place to join. Most all direction comes from corporate, with minimal room for opposing views from staffers.

    Advice to Management

    Value your experienced employees.
