    Reward talent; spend more time on feedback and allow high performers the opportunity to network instead of giving them more work while their peers breeze through under the radar

    I worked at EY full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Excellent training and people development. EY has built a leading program for on the job and classroom people development. Team members are also very talented, which provides for the broader ability to accomplish more through delegation of responsibility. Lastly, leadership will roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty / work along side other team members which is very motivating.

    Cons

    At times engagements are understaffed, which creates a lot of work, stress, and quality risk for the remaining team members.

    Advice to Management

    Ensure your teams are properly staffed. In the long run it will provide a better experience for your people, and a more accurate understanding of the true cost of each engagement.

    Pros

    Benefits , happy hours, connections, name, location, office, as well as the upper management

    Cons

    Sub par peers, the company uses AA hiring practice of just in time hiring instead of over hiring and firing. Both models are good just produce different results

    Pros

    Good exposure to many different industries. I was also given the opportunity to travel for client engagements and experience many different working environments and leadership.

    Cons

    On the downside, this firm will eat you alive if you are not proactive or do not network with the right people. Experienced hires are typically scheduled on clients that nobody else wants, and can end up with a year-round busy season. If you want to get a better schedule, you need to be aggressive yet flexible/accommodating.

    Advice to Management

    Perhaps look into stressing efficiency over the quantity of hours worked. There have been times where we were working for the sake of being at work rather than being productive.

    Pros

    There's a lot of flexibility if you can speak up for yourself, there are many opportunities to learn everything you'll ever need to know, and you'll work with the best people in the industry.

    Cons

    Many long days, not a good incentive structure, the firm rewards people who are willing to give up there lives.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on keeping your good people. Upper management is too far removed from the staff and seniors, they need to show that they are invested in the careers and not just using them.

    I worked at EY (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Gain additional experience and training (especially in specialized areas like IT Security, ERP, etc.). Consistent career trajectory if you are a solid performer. Lots of travel and expense perks. Worst compensation of Big 4 (at least in my area).

    Cons

    Expectations are crazy. The performance management process is broken and inconsistent. Succeeding at the highest levels again seems driven by chance and favoritism. Getting due credit for sales can be challenging--and sales are the key driver for promotion from Manager on up. No work life balance, ever.

    Advice to Management

    The industry is what it is, stop trying to spin it as new and improved. Give equal weight to external audit quality factors as growth since PCAOB has everyone scrambling and is a major PR risk to the biggest firms.
