I worked at EY (More than a year)

    Pros

The people and culture at the firm are great. I personally did not like my experience with accounting as a field and therefore will not return full-time to the firm but if accounting is your thing, you can't do better than EY.

    Cons

In my experience as an intern I found that you don't get to see a whole lot of the real, staff level work you will do once you begin full-time. This makes it a bit hard to truly know if you want to work in accounting or not.

I have been working at EY full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Access to Large, Multi-National Clients, SOX Experience & "potential exit opprotunities"

    Cons

Work-Life Balance is talked about but never obtained

  3. "A lot of hours with little oversight, thrown into the fire."

    Pros

A lot of benefits and flexible work arrangements. Working from home and paternity leave included with the entry level job.

    Cons

The expectations of hours worked are really high. Even with the flexible work arrangements it is hard to balance work and family.

    Advice to Management

Focus on providing an environment where feedback is okay.

    Pros

Relaxed introduction to public accounting. Best way to figure out if the field is for you. You get to go to Disney world at the end.

    Cons

Really short internship. Only on the job for roughly 6 weeks. Audit usually isn't during busy season if you intern over the summer.

I have been working at EY full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -the people
    -exposure to brilliant accounting minds
    -vacation benefits
    -meal reimbursement policy (ohhhh yeaah)
    -exposure to accounting

    Cons

    -can be cut throat
    -long long long hours
-no say in what your actually doing and what clients
-the GR office is hard core workaholics compared to other offices. Just ask someone from another office whose worked on a GR client.

    Advice to Management

-Incorporate bottom up feedback to hold some level of accountability on crappy seniors.
-Allow some, even if even minor input from staff on client selection.

I worked at EY (More than a year)

    Pros

Good team atmosphere, flexibility of work schedule (understanding if a family emergency etc. comes up), and brand value being added on a resume.

    Cons

Work wasn't as challenging as I would have liked. After you have been there for a little while it feels like you are just doing the same simple tasks over and over again.

    Advice to Management

I would say to not shove the brand down employees throats. While the brand does have value the sheer volume of branding on items around the office etc. is a little excessive in my opinion.

I worked at EY as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The people were very friendly and provided a great environment to work in
    - Good learning experience for ETL and Tableau
    - Great introduction to consulting lifestyle

    Cons

    - Project didn't fit my background. I have a strong background in statistics and there was none involved.
    - I was relocated to NYC for the summer only to fly back to my home in Chicago for my project

    Advice to Management

Would be better if EY could better staff projects where skill sets were more correctly utilized. Overall a good experience though.

    Pros

EY has an outstanding, open culture, tremendous scale, very bright people and a solid focus on client success. It is an outstanding place to work.

    Cons

Considerable pressure, significant work hours and travel are the most significant issues, though those come with the profession in general, and are not unique to EY.

    Advice to Management

Continue to lean out the leadership of the global firm!
