I have been working at EY full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Diversity of projects and teams is fantastic. The ability to have honest and two way communication upward, lateral and down without fear of being penalized is the best and fosters a healthy working relationships across the teams.

    Cons

difficult work life balance is an extreme struggle

    Advice to Management

separate BD team with support from main team managing and performing work.

    Pros

FSO Advisory (Financial Services Consulting) has grown rapidly and is a leader in Risk & Regulatory consulting among the largest banks. This provides many opportunities for junior staff.

    Cons

Innovation in FSO is lagging and it's leaders have not made hard decisions about reorganizing to better serve the changing market. Many senior people have come from other firms (primarily Accenture and IBM Consulting) so there is a lot of inconsistency in the culture.

    Advice to Management

Maybe it's time to start reintegrating FSO with the rest of the Advisory practice in order to learn best practices from each.

I have been working at EY full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

EY has great values on paper. Vision 2020 was impressive before imploding.
Only Big 4 still offering a defined pension vesting at 3 years of services
Used to have a better culture before hiring in a lot of direct-hire PPEDs, SMs fro competitors

    Cons

Poor HR and internal services, training
    Poor internal technology and systems
Really poor performance review practices and process
    Sub-par bonuses and salaries

    Advice to Management

Right the ship before you lose more and more top talent

I have been working at EY full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities for different types of experiences, lots of potential for growth / learning, good amount of flexibility to work from home

    Cons

Demanding work loads, work/life balance can be difficult to maintain, as you move higher up the ladder then it can be very political

    Advice to Management

    More transparency

I have been working at EY (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great people culture, good support/career development system, year on year promotions, good year on year raises, good place to make friends

    Cons

long commutes, unfair performance rating system, long hours, high expectations to participate in 'outside of client work' activities, terrible profit sharing (performance based bonuses), frequent travel, poor work-life balance, expectations to dedicate all waking hours to the company

    Advice to Management

I would try and dedicate more time and energy to meeting and making new employees feel welcome, don't have a closed door attitude, don't brag about your personal wealth ( we get you make a lot of money)

I have been working at EY full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong and diverse teaming environment with bright, hardworking talent.

    Cons

Relatively low level of practice maturing in the IT Advisory-side. Sr Manager and up are hungry to take on client opportunities, but lack the wisdom to know what's realistic or appropriate. Saying 'yes' to everything creates a high risk environment and the cost is taken out on those of us left to fulfill on what's been promised.

    Advice to Management

Overall EY has great reputation and I suspect that it's well deserved based on a distinguished track record on the tax, assurance and audit side of the house. IT advisory need to mature, significantly.

I worked at EY full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fast track to learn how big businesses work and get your foot in the door when starting with no professional experience, opportunities to work on exciting companies in the bay area, make a lot of networking and personal connections with coworkers that last forever.

    Cons

Bad bad hours all year round there is never a not busy time, poor communication from management and little reward for hard work, low salary compared to market and the raise you get is compared to your peers and depends on performance review by your managers from multiple teams and ultimately judged by the national office (non-negotiable). Difficult to move around clients or locations unless you threaten to quit. Advertised as way to learn about accounting to college students, but you spend a substantial amount of time doing administrative and documentation exercises.

    Advice to Management

Adjust business model to focus on showing people you truly care about their development and well-being instead of treating people as just potential billable hours and tools in a spreadsheet. Start by implementing competitive salaries (or even overtime) and mandated 45 hour work weeks outside of busy season and actually enforce it. Focus less on budget of projects and more on development of people, if you have the most efficient person doing the same task every quarter because they are the best and take the least hours from the budget, no one learns and when that person leaves everyone is in a bad spot.
