I have been working at Eagle Hill Consulting full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

I love my colleagues. Everyone shares ideas and approaches, people are proactive and strive to produce great work, and I work with people that make my work easier to do. This is the only place I’ve worked where I’d choose to work with all of my colleagues again. The culture. Melissa and the leadership team live the culture, which permeates down through the firm. I see this daily in simple ways – the office is filled...

    Cons

As a growing firm that embraces change, there are a lot of... changes. While I believe these will make EHC a better employer and provider of services, this ‘laboratory’ approach can be frustrating for people who are easily rattled by change. EHC can be transparent to a fault. By letting employees ‘into the kitchen’, they start to feel that they should be given insight and opinion into all firm decisions. This isn’t...

    Advice to Management

Continue rejecting the idea that "it's done this way because it's always been done this way" -- we're seeing some GREAT things happen! Narrow in on how much weight we place on employee-interests vs. client-needs.

    Pros

Autonomy. At Eagle Hill everyone is their chief so you are responsible for managing client relationships, developing solutions, and successfully securing new work through BD. Always Alcohol. There is always alcohol in the company fridge and CEO's office so most days you can start drinking by 3pm. Great news for taking the edge off the cons below. Exposure to Business Development. You get exposure to the federal contracting/sales...

    Cons

No Business-Driven Decision Making or Strategy. There is a complete lack of strategy when it comes to both longer term vision and day-to-day operations. Most decisions are made as a fire drill. Most leadership decisions are based on emotion and assumption. EHC is a very sad extension of high-school where people reeking of white privilege make decisions based on "what others will say/think" versus what is fair, equitable,...

    Advice to Management

Nothing about this company is functioning or healthy. EHC has over indexed on people not being able to see through their b.s. In my time at EHC I learned that even when asked Melissa didn't really want my honest opinions, I'm not going to take the time to write anything thoughtful here re advice to management. My advice to potential employees - 1) if you find valuing in joining EHC to learn not what to do then go for...

    Pros

A lot of smart and fun people work here. Everyone is willing to jump in and get the job done at the Associate and Manager levels. I generally had the freedom to seek out senior employees for perspective and insights. No doubt the work products are excellent.

    Cons

The culture here has really deteriorated. There has been a lot of turnover and growing discontent amongst employees about the company vision and career pathing. There is a big disconnect from those at the Director level and above, to the Manager and Associate levels. A challenge the company will need to overcome is that it claims to be employee driven and one that is always open to new ideas. But sadly the culture has...

    Advice to Management

Get more connected with the company. This means talking and truly listening to people at all levels. Be careful marketing internal initiatives as a success when they are clearly not working. This can really drive morale down. Try to get back to the identity where you wanted to be a different kind of consulting firm.

I have been working at Eagle Hill Consulting full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Consulting will never be a 9-5 job every week, but Eagle Hill offers a culture and pace that is superior to its competitors. Almost everyone is highly collaborative and accountable, which is important when working on smaller teams than you would at a large firm. Leadership is extremely accessible and transparent and actively listens and makes changes when needed. If you take the initiative, there are a lot of ways...

    Cons

The firm is growing and constant change is inevitable as they figure out how to do things better and differently. This can cause a lot of frustration among employees. A lot of employees also get frustrated about the typical consulting struggles - project assignments, balancing client work with other responsibilities, etc.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be transparent and actively address misperceptions

    Pros

Caring, kind, and nurturing environment in many circles. Good place for a smooth, safe, and easy transition into consulting for very junior staff from non-consulting backgrounds. Excellent brand marketing capabilities. Strong client relationships built during 8a firm’s expansion period

    Cons

Mediocrity at every level of the organization, with small pockets of excellence. Sorority-like atmosphere perpetrated by a subset of senior leadership and embraced by various levels of insecure and in many cases incompetent staff. Limited opportunities for true growth, development, and mentorship, not due to a lack of willingness, but limited capabilities of leadership to challenge, mentor, or set strong examples for...

    Advice to Management

    1. Please refer the tale of “The emperor has no clothes” 2. Refer to Steve Jobs famous quote “It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do” 3. Do not confuse niceties and pleasantries with competence and wisdom 4. Beware of "competent jerks." They are a parasites to your organization. Eagle Hill Consulting Response

    February 28, 2019President & CEO

Thank you for leaving a review. I had to reread it a few times as I was so caught off guard by the picture you paint -- it’s in such opposition to the Eagle Hill and the colleagues I know. I’m sorry that this was your experience, and I hope your next endeavor is a better fit. Melissa

    Pros

The worker bees are great and some Directors are good as well. Your experience is 100% dependant on the team you get on and the org makes you stay in place for at least a year, so if you don't like it tough luck

    Cons

The leadership team is awful. Most of the Directors don't care about their people and the senior leadership team is so busy running around trying to please clients they offer no support. The culture of the org is completely gone and its evident by the number of people leaving, we are up to 30% as stated in our last company meeting. They don't care about anyone anymore, just interested in making sales and if you aren't...

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Depending on the contract you're on you have the ability to lead and manage your own work and engage with clients, which helps you grow as a problem solver and consultant. I was able to work with some really smart, collaborative, and excellent people that helped me learn and I received a solid foundation is process management.

    Cons

Business and analytic acumen is punished rather than rewarded in a company where mostly incompetent "yes men" rise to the top. Moreover, the management touts a "family first" mentality, but only if that family is theirs or is the Eagle Hill "family." Having family as a core value of your company distorts the nature of what employment is--inherently a transactional relationship in which skill and business success is rewarded...

I worked at Eagle Hill Consulting full-time

    Pros

Eagle Hill had an innovative, entrepreneurial, and fun approach to consulting where employees were encouraged to grow and learn.

    Cons

At Eagle Hill, the leadership team was not open to corrective feedback - often times, it felt as though employees were 'forced' to accept the status quo, as any feedback or criticism was met with defensiveness.

I have been working at Eagle Hill Consulting full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Having worked at a Big 4 firm and a smaller consulting firm, as well, I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed at Eagle Hill. Been here for a couple of years now and while consulting (and client service) has its challenges regardless of the firm, Eagle Hill is a place where I’ve found both career and professional growth and support for my life outside of work. Some things that stand out: - Fantastic, talented people...

    Cons

Eagle Hill hires a lot of people who are new to consulting, some pretty junior, and who have differing expectations of what client service entails. Some folks come on board and despite being three or four years out of undergrad expect they’ll be consulting to the c-suite, leading complex “strategic” projects, and doing all of this within a 40 hour work week. That’s not realistic - for any firm, any where. Also, like...

    Advice to Management

Be clear with prospective and new employees that yes, Eagle Hill is a great place to work but it’s consulting and inherent in consulting are the realities of client service. Also, set expectations about the types of projects and that work life balance exists. Lastly, hire smart, awesome people with experience in consulting. Not sure that the teacher/atypical professional backgrounds serve the firm or clients well.
