I have been working at East Alabama Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The current CEO is awesome. A professional organization that cares about patients, employees, and physicians.

    Cons

Pay is not up to par. Top heavy with senior leadership. No employees of color on senior management team.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the senior leadership team. Invest in employees of color to be a part of upper management. Pay employees a better rate.

I have been working at East Alabama Medical Center full-time

    Pros

I enjoy meeting new patients and family and my manager is the best there is, but the supervisor is a completely different story.

    Cons

The pay is ridiculously low for the amount of time I've been there. Also there's alot of lying in upper management.. They say we're "privately" owned but they use the excuse of comparing our salaries to surrounding "public" hospitals in bigger cities.

    Advice to Management

Start looking out for the little people.. Without us there would be no you.

    Cons

I have been working at East Alabama Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to transfer between departments after 1 year.

    Cons

Limited commitment to tenured employees, not enough compensation, and health coverage is too expensive.

    Advice to Management

Be available and actually show genuine concern for well being of staff, not just patients.

I have been working at East Alabama Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits, generous childcare and retirement fund options, average salary for the area, good food in the employee cafeteria. Current leadership has been proactive in developing markets and services to meet local health needs.

    Cons

They are an agency of the county, providing healthcare. As such, they are subject to all the bureaucratic obstructions and pitfalls that befall such organizations. They are not agile in their response to change. Right now there are challenges with the merger they had with Lanier, but these hopefully are not insurmountable.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the people in your organization who do the work of patient care, and less to the regulatory noise of Joint Commission, legal consultants, etc. Focus on your core commitment to patients.

Current Employee - RN Nurse Supervisor in Opelika, AL

    Negative Outlook
    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Some good middle level management (ICU/CVICU), competitive base pay rate, good benefits

    Cons

No flexible scheduling (all 12 hour EOW), weekend and shift differentials are not competitive with other hospitals, on call is mandatory and the pay for call is pitiful

    Advice to Management

Offer weekend Baylor positions, increase weekend and third shift differentials, don't let your doctors run the hospital - they don't watch out for your nurses like you need to in order to retain experienced RNs.
