I worked at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being able to help people who really need it. Great atmosphere, good benefits, and the best coworkers I have ever had.

    Cons

Low pay. Most people, like me, end up leaving for a job at a big hospital where the pay is higher.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. The atmosphere is a great reason to work there but you might want to work a little harder on getting better compensation.

    Pros

Lots of training opportunities and great benefits package. Close to great schools and community centers. Plenty of parks nearby as well. Close knit departments provide supportive coworkers and teamwork environment.

    Cons

Difficult to move up in the organization, lots of commute between program and service sites. Lots of turnover of support staff and few opportunities to meet employees in other departments of the organization.

I have been working at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are good, like the health insurance, but especially great benefits for people trying to work towards their education. They have a partnership with BHCC and EBNHC offers seven free credits per sememter at BHCC plus tuition reimbursement for full time employees.

    Cons

Not a lot of growth opportunities, and based on what I have seen so far what seems to get you promotions are how long you've been there, who you know and how great you suck up to your boss. Additionally, you can only apply for one promotion per year and it's frowned upon if you apply for more then one position when you do.

    Pros

Willing to train, good location, good benefits

    Cons

A lot of work, people can be territorial

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. The amount of work people have is too much

I have been working at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are probably the best reason to work here , followed by location and access to public transportation.most of the employees are friendly with a top class President of the Health Center in Mr. Lopes! A Amazing gentleman with nothing but class #1 who never wavered from where he started from.

    Cons

Alot of department turmoil among co -workers and supervision ! Hard to get issues resolved within. Administration tends to look down on their employees ( with the exception of the President) and seems side with department management over their staff in certain departments ! Pay rate could be a bit better! The health center seems to care more about their own bottom line as a pose to their long time dedicated employees! The so called "open door policy" doesn't exist here!

    Advice to Management

Instead of thumbing their noses at you, be real and listen to what employees are saying don't pretend just do it! Maybe need to hire so called "spies" to really see what is going on and hopefully work on resolving issues with in each department on a case by case matter! You can get the bottom line with a much better environment ,just show a little more compassion it's really not all that hard . Follow The President Mr.Lopes and lend a genuine ear !

    Pros

    Great environment
    Management is friendly
    co-workers are friendly

    Cons

Pay is a little on the low side for the amount of work
    Non-clinical departments are short staffed

    Advice to Management

The support staff for your clinical departments are important too even if they don't necessarily generate income. They support the clinical departments so that they can generate income, so investing in non-clinical departments should be seen as an investment in the company.
