I worked at East Carolina University as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a solid experience. The faculty is focused on teaching, and they helped me out a great deal. Everyone is approachable and focused on helping you succeed.

    Cons

The only downsides might be the paperwork and the dawdling pace of administration which is just a part of university life.

    Advice to Management

Don't fill top administrative positions with people who have a long history of partisan hackery and discriminatory politics. It's embarrassing.

I have been working at East Carolina University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All of my colleagues are easy going and great to work with. The campus is beautiful and the equipment is on par with most universities.

    Cons

The students, location, and administration leave a lot to be desired. I have seen graduate students who cannot understand subject been agreement. The undergraduates are on par with your average community college. The area has not kept up with the times in terms of tastes, restaurants, our political views. The housing selection is awful, and the area has a fairly high crime rate.

Worked well with my schedule. The co workers were awesome. Lots of down time to do homework and other things.

I have been working at East Carolina University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of good students and, of course, a lot who want to go to college without being students. They have access to taxpayer funding so it doesn't matter whether they're good or not.

    Cons

Administration is inefficient, shirks responsibility, and is concerned with appearance rather than substance. The state is bureaucratic and moribund. The university is political correct and stuck in teacher's college mentality. Greenville is an intellectual backwater.

    Advice to Management

    Find another profession

I worked at East Carolina University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

While at ECU I gained tremendous experience as well as respect for the work involved in multiple departments across the university. It was a joy to work at ECU and I hope to return one day soon.

    Cons

Having very limited amount of parking was the biggest downfall to working on campus.

    Advice to Management

Continue to show the respect that you have shown to me and my colleagues and ECU will remain one of the most desirable places in eastern NC to work. Thank you.
