Struggling financially but will probably pull through

      Pros

Used to be a somewhat stuffy place to work but has become a bit less formal in recent years. Can periodically wear jeans, Saints jerseys and shirts during football season, etc. A lot of good, caring people work at this hospital,

      Cons

There's a tendency to use comparative data as club without an understanding that most comparative data is junk science. Suppose EJGH fielded a baseball team against other hospitals and for every game EJGH fielded 8 players against the other hospitals who always fielded 9. In spite of losing all of their games, EJ found themselves in the top 5th percentile for productive labor usage in a comparative database. Is this a good thing? It's actually worse than this. We really don't know FOR SURE how many players the other team is fielding or if they're even playing baseball. Also, some leaders equate excessive time spent at work as virtuous. Raises have been non-existent for several years. Facility is old and is years behind in terms of remodeling.

      Old-fashioned Suburban Hospital

      Pros

Onboarding was fairly straightforward though I found the paperwork process archaic.

      Cons

By far the most behind-the-time workplace culture I've encountered. Open racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. Wildly inappropriate comments about coworkers and patients (not referring to "dark humor"). Serious lack of professionalism among a lot of the travel nurses - though some do work hard. Even some of the staff nurses seem to be focused on anything but patient care sometimes. Some techs and other support staff are absolutely useless - not all, but some - and on my unit I see no corrective action from leadership, which makes life harder for the staff who do put in the effort. Some days have moments of joy, learning, and satisfaction - but more often than not I feel very frustrated and worn-out working at EJGH.

      Pros

      The Health Benefits were great.

      Cons

EMS Communications Department was "outsourced" to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Department as of 12/31/2013. EMS dispatchers were located at Jefferson Parish 911 Center with the Sheriff's 911 Dispatchers and Fire dispatchers. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff also was a board member at EJGH and wanted to manage all police, fire, and EMS 911 dispatching functions. Note also that each agency received federal monies to handle these duties and feel that EJGH employees received a bad deal when given over to the Sheriff's Department. Working conditions under Sheriffs's Department were very different. If you were not part of certain "cliques" you got nowhere. Did not use an EMD system so most dispatchers had no knowledge of Emergency Pre-hospital Care Instructions, etc.
