I have been working at East Mississippi State Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's highly accessible being thought it is not to hard to get hired with them. You get a pretty flexible schedule being as though you work 7 days within two weeks. Have a retirement savings that you put money into and can be retrieved when you resign or retire. If you do your 25 years with them they will match what it is you have saved up.

    Cons

Not much opportunity for advancement. Also very limited on modified scheduling. At one point in time they gave unlimited overtime now they don''t give it as often.

    Advice to Management

Would be nice if the unlimited overtime returned. More reliability. Also maybe more programs for the patients or activities for those who work the late shift.

    Pros

Being able to care for clients and getting to know their needs. My co-workers on my shift were very helpful and considerate. There is a cafeteria on campus, which is very convenient. The doctor on my unit was very professional, knowledgable, and capable. He was very competent.

    Cons

Unpleasant behavior and unwelcomed comments from administration. There seems to be struggles with power and not much structure within administration. Women are not treated as equals to their male counterparts. There seems to be a current trend to hire younger people with online degrees and little to no experience. They are not hired based on certain qualifications for that job. This can be very detrimental to the clients.

    Advice to Management

Offer an equal and fair work enviroment for all employees. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are people too. Some of us are mothers and grandmothers that deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Think big, the Sky is the limit.

    Pros

    Good insurance, pay was ok..

    Advice to Management

stop hiring friends of friends and family who do not deserve the job.

I worked at East Mississippi State Hospital full-time

    Pros

Their were a few staffs who actually cared for the patients and had good attitudes.

    Cons

I noticed how all nurses and techs had to do all the work and only had a few rights and was treated bad. I noticed how the bosses all just stayed on there phones and never worked and did what they wanted.

    Advice to Management

Don't run business like highschool. Promote good people. Not people who like you or who are like you.

I worked at East Mississippi State Hospital (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They promote an opportunity to advance oneself with education. The work is not hard as long as you do not let them know you are capable of more than what you were just hired to do

    Cons

Ability to receive promotions once hired are limited to those who forged personal relationships with the leadership. It's a great first time job for graduates but not so much for seasoned individuals

    Advice to Management

Recognize qualified individuals and their unique talents prior to them deciding to move on

I worked at East Mississippi State Hospital as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was an rewarding experience to spend time with patients and help them work through some personal issues.

    Cons

The staff doesn't take their job as seriously as they should. They don't make the job fun, but rather miserable. They don't seem to consider the patients as real people, but rather just inconveniences.

    Advice to Management

Provide incentives for the employees to give them the desire to want to go above and beyond.

I worked at East Mississippi State Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is always help wanted. DCW's and CNA's are the backbone and the foundation of the hospital.

    Cons

1 year probation. The pay is poor. The administartion and treatment team undermind what the DCW's are doing for the patients. Some of the nurses are very condescending towards the DCW's and are more worried about there reputation than doing what is in the best interest of the patients.

    Advice to Management

Talk to the state about reducing the probation to 90 days for employees age 24 and older. The pay needs to be improved for DCW's and CNA's. Provide professional growth, mentorship for DCW's and CNA's. Make the pay competitive with that of agencies. Have a CNA1 and a CNA2 positions.
