I have been working at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Experienced and friendly staff
    Privately owned
    Great benefits

    Cons

Over the past couple of years there have been cutbacks on staffing as a result of LEAN productivity analysis. The atmosphere is growing more and more corporate.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful that cutting staffing too much leads to low employee morale and compromises patient safety.

I worked at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love the children.good pay, doctors and nurse were great to work with. Good benefits.

    Cons

Lots of drama. Rules dont apply the same to everyone. To much favoritism. HR doesnt do anything to help when you go to them with a ptoblem other than tell the person you went to talk to them about that you said something which causes for a hostile work environment. They need to know that not all the upper management are fair or truthful and do retaliate against you for going to HR about them. You feel like there is no where to turn when there is a problem. There were employees violating hippa in my department that were caught more than once and HR did nothing because they were the supervisors "pets" but others get written up or fired for hear say.

    Advice to Management

To management of the department now, please do t repeat what the last manager did all those years. HR needs to learn to separate friendship from clouding their judgement. Stop the good ol' boy system. Get to the bottom of real problems rather than worrying about trivial things. Listen to every side of the story and look back at track records before deciding to get rid of your good employees and the ones who get away with murder and are so unprofessional seem to get babied. They are never held accountable for anything. Things have sure changed around there since Mr Kopal left.

I worked at East Tennessee Children's Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The insurance was really good (BCBS). Other than the insurance and being able to be around the kids not really any other pros.

    Cons

Raises were not good. Management was terrible. Always understaffed. Even though they say you can move around in the company the supervisors would block it so you couldn't be moved because they would say they are understaffed and couldn't let the employee go.

    Advice to Management

    Manage properly. Don't pick favorites.

I have been working at East Tennessee Children's Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere. Great teamwork in my department. Only freestanding pediatric facility in the area. Easy to work with scheduling. Great relationships between nurses and physician staff.

    Cons

Pay is low, but comparable to other area hospitals. Decent annual raises if evaluations are good every year.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees for advancement, and compensate for achievements such as certifications. Reward employees for working during very busy times of the year.
