I worked at East Tennessee State full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work, great people to work with and for. Good hours and excellent benefits for the area. Great time off.

    Cons

Pay is very low for the amount of work. Pay raises do not occur annually and only occur when the state of Tennessee provides a raise to all. Amount of work, time of service, and other job responsibilities do not affect pay. There is also times when it is understaffed, and the hiring process is so lengthy that the times between hiring when a person resigns from their position leaves those left in a struggle.

    Advice to Management

Better pay, and more organized training, and better staffing.

  4. "Working at ETSU is like being in high school. Your job is based on who you know, not what you know."

I worked at East Tennessee State full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I would have rated it a 1 star except that the State 401k plan and health insurance are great coverage.

    Cons

The pay scale used isn't the greatest and politics hinders people from doing their job and prevents them from growing.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up.

    Pros

Good benefits. Feeling of unity campus-wide and support from the community. Vibrant and active campus. Plenty of activities for students to attend.

    Cons

Salary not great. Compared with the salaries of other executive aides whose job descriptions are the equivalent or involve less responsibilities than those at ETSU, the pay leaves much to be desired.

    Advice to Management

Advocate for better staff salaries. Don't expect accounting skills from executive aides who are not skilled/trained in accounting.

I worked at East Tennessee State part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pays for Grad School.
Work is light, with plenty of time to study.
Fun coworkers, and a good boss.

    Cons

There's a decent bit of customer service.
It's busy during the first and last two weeks of each semester.

    Advice to Management

Building semester long work schedules in excel works, but it's better to use dedicated software.
