I worked at Eastern Illinois University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work. Great job to have while working on your graduate degree. Very sensitive to work school balance. Nice resume builder. Great job also if you plan to continue in field of higher ed.

    Cons

Only real con for this company is that they are dependent on the State of Illinois for a large part of the school fiscal budget. If they offer you the job, I would definitely advise you to take it.

I worked at Eastern Illinois University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Team oriented, talented, dedicated staff and faculty. Lovely campus. Awesome students - really! What has happened here is tragic for the university and for the surrounding small towns. New Prez.

    Cons

The withholding of state funds has decimated this beautiful semi-rural campus in downstate Illinois causing the local economy to crater. Cronyism & turf protection run rampant in the face of seriously diminishing resources.

    Advice to Management

Use a broader broom and take another pass at Operations and Student Affairs. Cronyism is alive and well in lieu of objective measures. Geogracphically, you have a captive worker pool at the staff level suggesting to me that this is human capital worth investing in.

I have been working at Eastern Illinois University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The university itself has been great to me. The campus is nice, and the facilities -- especially the gym -- are great.

    Cons

The state has not passed a budget, which has resulted in many staff layoffs. The city of Charleston has also not been managed as well as it has in the past.
