I have been working at Eastern Oregon University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small professional setting. Community environment, which is conducive to longer term work (career). Summers are slow, while the rest of the year is moderate.

    Cons

Typical bureaucracy of working in a public institution. Little room for vertical movement. Financial management is horrible, which is eliminating job security completely.

    Advice to Management

Be the leader your employees need you to be.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Eastern Oregon University (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with my wonderful students and the faculty members.

    Cons

A lot of underhanded and devious actions toward employees.

    Advice to Management

They need to really look at some of the departments and get rid of some nasty people.

I worked at Eastern Oregon University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful location. The university itself has a strong sense of community and is mostly a very pleasant environment to work in.

    Cons

Little to no room for vertical movement depending on the department. Financial management is nonexistent--money is thrown around departments and programs haphazardly with no accountability.

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for the state of your department/program and work for the interests of the students and community.

I worked at Eastern Oregon University full-time

    Pros

Co-workers were smart, compassionate, and motivated individuals. Students are great. Small school.

    Cons

At the mercy of state budget. Senior administration does not always listen to input from students and staff.

    Advice to Management

Consider student and staff needs and suggestions carefully when making decisions.
