I have been working at Eastern Washington University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Quiet town and nice campus

    Cons

Not many options for advancement, though this is true of state jobs in general. A cloud of negativity hangs over all staff positions. This is an extremely political environment with leadership that is substandard and unconcerned.

    Advice to Management

Work toward creating a more positive working environment, which should lead to a happier, more productive staff.

I worked at Eastern Washington University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get a job. Good schedule.

    Cons

No respect. Boss is bipolar. Low wage. Random deadline changes. No privacy. Uncomfortable work environment. No training. You will not advance in your position. 11 month working schedule. Corrupt management.

    Advice to Management

Make everyone follow the same rules. No exceptions. Be upfront about tasks and position. Treat employees like they are actual people, not dogs.

  7. "EWU has a promising future"

I have been working at Eastern Washington University full-time

    Pros

Co-workers are kind and friendly. Staff and faculty genuinely believe in serving students. There is also a lot of positive momentum at EWU right now as new leaders across many areas are making strides to implement promising changes for students and the university as a whole.

    Cons

There's some of the usual bureaucracy and inefficiency that is somewhat stereotypical among public/government employers. There's also kind of a culture of accepting mediocrity that exists, often accompanied by the phrase "it's Eastern." This is, by no means, a universal attitude among employees, but it's at least somewhat pervasive.

    Advice to Management

EWU has a bright future as a place to study and work, but a more thoughtful approach to change management from its leadership could go a long way toward helping the university make more effective and lasting improvements as an institution.
