I have been working at Eastern Washington University (Less than a year)

    Pros

Family feel. It feels like a small town on campus and people seem to really care about your wellbeing. Faculty and staff really care about the students and their success. At the end of the day, you feel great about what you do for a living when you work at Eastern.

    Cons

It's as bureaucratic as any other university. You have to accept that things move slowly and that communication lines are often crossed.

    Advice to Management

Provide talented employees with opportunities to shine.

I have been working at Eastern Washington University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working on a college campus is very enjoyable due to contact with the students. The campus culture is also very positive and you develop good working relationships with your co-workers.

    Cons

In general, Higher Ed. is very prone to hiring from outside the campus for upper level positions for "fresh perspective." EWU is no different. Unless you have bounced around the country building a resume and adding on degrees, the most you can hope for is a low to mid level management position.

    Advice to Management

You have many talented people who are deeply invested in the university and the community that you are constantly overlooking while you hire abroad. These folks tend to stay a few years, build their resume and leave, while the dedicated staff are still here hoping for a chance to advance their career.

I worked at Eastern Washington University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A mostly open schedule that encourages multitasking if you're an attending student. There is plenty of time to focus on academic while earning a paycheck.

    Cons

The actual job is not a steady stream of activity. There are peak days in which you're incredibly busy and days where nothing happens.

    Advice to Management

Clearer communication from time to time, but the entire experience is entirely professional and organized.
