    Cons

Average salary, a long wait time for hiring process

    Advice to Management

    Compensate more.

  2. "EWU has a promising future"

I have been working at Eastern Washington University full-time

    Pros

Co-workers are kind and friendly. Staff and faculty genuinely believe in serving students. There is also a lot of positive momentum at EWU right now as new leaders across many areas are making strides to implement promising changes for students and the university as a whole.

    Cons

There's some of the usual bureaucracy and inefficiency that is somewhat stereotypical among public/government employers. There's also kind of a culture of accepting mediocrity that exists, often accompanied by the phrase "it's Eastern." This is, by no means, a universal attitude among employees, but it's at least somewhat pervasive.

    Advice to Management

EWU has a bright future as a place to study and work, but a more thoughtful approach to change management from its leadership could go a long way toward helping the university make more effective and lasting improvements as an institution.

I worked at Eastern Washington University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've met some of the best people in my previous positions at this institution. The benefits are pretty great, if you actually get through the 6-month probationary period.

    Cons

The politics of universities are absolutely horrendous! The higher up you work, the more hierarchy you meet, even in departments that were created to dismantle that sort of thing.
In order to do anything, you have to know people. And if you know the right people, one might even get a job they are unqualified for. Ultimately this created a hostile working environment because that person had no experience leading a team. They kept changing the job description to suit their own wants and needs.

    Advice to Management

Put the effort in to actually find someone qualified for a director position and who knows how to supervise and manage a team.

I worked at Eastern Washington University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The academic side of the university seems to be a lot better working environment than the administrative side.

    Cons

As an IT worker, expect to be treated as a second class citizen by the rest of the university staff. The culture within the IT department is also quite toxic, with very little cooperation among the various teams. The place is in an absolute state of disorder with projects frequently running (literally) years behind schedule. Expect to work with outdated technology, and an outdated management style. The IT department reports into the Finance department. The pay and benefits are well below market rates.

I have been working at Eastern Washington University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are many great mentors in IT and even more great clients to work for. If you are willing to work, it is great job security.

    Cons

Bureaucracy sometimes gets in the way of giving our clients the best service. Amount of work is either overwhelming or underwhelming and rarely steady.

    Pros

Decent benefits. Nice campus to walk around.

    Cons

Terrible management. Faculty and staff are rude and believe themselves to be "all that." Students are rude and not at all self-sufficient.
