    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Eastern Washington University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, opportunities for growth, and students

    Cons

(This is addressing staff and not faculty). There was a huge lack of leadership in my department, with a minimal orientation upon hiring, and a lack of cohesiveness or understanding of the larger mission throughout my time there. Bullying of fellow employees was allowed, even after reported. You knew you weren’t valued. Those without an advanced degree are more respected and promoted. There is a culture of low-brow humor and sexism that is tolerated. In my 20+ years working for different companies, this was by far the worst.

    Advice to Management

    Above.

I have been working at Eastern Washington University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Quiet town and nice campus

    Cons

Not many options for advancement, though this is true of state jobs in general. A cloud of negativity hangs over all staff positions. This is an extremely political environment with leadership that is substandard and unconcerned.

    Advice to Management

Work toward creating a more positive working environment, which should lead to a happier, more productive staff.
