Experience, but little money for the work

Aug 27, 2022 - Couselor in New Castle, VA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Free meals, can stay in cabins even when not in session, access to art supplies +, great work environment, they wont give you more then you can handle, and if they do you can tell them and you'll be able to work something out. It may not seem like there are a lot of pros just because of the cons list, but its definitely worth the experience.

    Cons

This year was a mess, people at the camp caught covid, and before all the counselors had recovered they started the next session, didn't tell parents or the new counselors, the girls cabins were told not to talk about it by upper management but they didn't tell the guys because upper management wasn't in their cabin. They did keep covid positive people away from the campers though. Another issue was the rumor spreading among staff. Volunteers weren't told any of the rules before they broke them, or how to take care of the campers.

Great Pay and Benefits - Terribly Managed

Nov 25, 2022 - Teacher III in Chicago, IL
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The pay is truly phenomenal especially for education. The benefits are truly wonderful too.

    Cons

Absolutely horrible management. No one on the administrative team is on the same page. It's a revolving door of employees. Most people do not last a year.

Great pay, but toxic workplace environment

    Aug 29, 2022 - Behavior Interventionist
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The pay for a Behavioral interventionist starts at $20 an hour. Flexible hours but beware of over scheduling (can be severely overworked). Working with children living with ASD was really rewarding. You learn a lot about how people with ASD learn and how to track their development.

    Cons

Management and scheduling team are horrible. The company likes to promote that they work well with college students, but that is an absolute lie. They demand a week long training from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As a college student I had to notify all my professors that I would be absent for a whole week. They denied changes in my availability and I had to wait three months before I could change it again (and it was a small change). They can schedule you 24 hours in advance with no warning, so if you don't keep the iPad (which they give you) on your person at all times you could miss something. I went several weeks without data sheets, even when I asked for more several times. They encourage participant development be tracked on a notebook piece of paper when you run out of data sheets which is completely unprofessional.
