I have been working at Eastman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay , fair benefits. Very serious about safety and pays for all your clothes ,boots and PPE. Overall a good company

    Cons

Older workers seem to get left out. The good ole boys always get the best. Not alot of room to move up, if you don't have a degree. Pay is not the same as other chemical Co. But the plants are located in nice areas.

    Advice to Management

You have come to the point where people are scared for their jobs. Due to operator errors. You have removed the human factor. 401k for all employees pre 97. Fairness across the board.

I worked at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone was extremely friendly. High focus on safety. Great pay, benefits, and on-site health resources. Flexible rules around WFH, in my department anyway. Focuses on the long term when making big company decisions.

    Cons

Onboarding was kind of a mess: no structure, everyone was confused. Not nearly enough technical training. Hiring process was shaky too.

    Advice to Management

Treat new employees like new employees, not like someone who's been there for two years already.

I have been working at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good, you get paid really well especially for the area, I have one of the best supervisors/coaches I've ever had (but that's pretty rare)

    Cons

The headquarters is in eastern TN which is not an optimal place to live if you like diversity. It is also very difficult for a trailing spouse to find a job.

    Advice to Management

be more flexible allowing people to work from different locations across the US. It is very difficult to have a dual income family to move to headquarters- allowing people to work remotely would be beneficial.

I have been working at Eastman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation is very competitive.
Benefits are still great even after cuts.
    High retention rate.
    Management is extremely transparent.
The mentorship program can work extremely well when assigned someone in your unit.

    Cons

    Technical training is almost non-existent.
Frequent organizational changes lead to a lot of unwanted position changes.
Some positions are unique, such that new hires may have no one to ask for help.
The mentorship program can be ineffective when assigned someone outside your unit.

    Advice to Management

Across the company, either put more emphasis on training both technical and business personnel, or expand the mentorship program to ensure every new employee has someone they can turn to.

I have been working at Eastman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility in scheduling; 4 9-hr days and a 4 hr day.
Upper management stresses work/life balance, as well as fitness.
Multiple on-site fitness centers and fitness classes.
    Competitive pay/benefits and advancement ladder.
    Great culture/diversity.
Opportunities to help the community by donations and volunteering.
Supportive management, does their best to manage workloads.

    Cons

Recent cost cutting has lead to people taking on multiple positions, making getting things done difficult at times.
Upper management makes an effort to be involved, but there is still sometimes a disconnect on what is going on.
Things do not always get communicated correctly between teams.

    Advice to Management

It seems like most companies are going through cost cutting/reorganizing to try to show investors that the future is good. While the strategy was to minimize work-force loss, remember that we did take a big hit and there will be a transition time for those who took on new roles.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Eastman full-time

    Pros

Eastman is a good company with a variety of potential career opportunities. The people care about each other and also about the companies success.

    Cons

The benefits package needs improvement. The company has continued to take benefits from employees while delivering, and increasing, year over year earnings growth.

    Advice to Management

The management team is very talented, but needs to keep in mind it is also the corporate culture that has driven Eastman 's success. You can't continue to take (jobs and benefits) from the employees and expect the same loyalty and performance you have enjoyed in the past.
